Exactly. A new K2 with the trans thermostat would probably run similar temps on the BR parkway, but would also get to similar temps on the highway as well. it would also warm up quicker, even if it was cold outside.

1 week old 1400 miles on a 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 5.3 with 3.42 gearing. Trans temp starts out low and after a 30 minutes or so runs right at 199f.............. After driving a 2009 Sierra 5.3 I was concerned and called the dealer and they said it was normal. The 2009 Sierra Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 that I drove for years with the 5.3 and 6spd only got to 180 if doing real heavy towing and pushing it pretty hard in hot weather. When running empty the 2009 typically ran 150 or below.

My only complaint on this 2014 is the heated seats THEY REALLY SUC when compared to the 09. They will not heat up unless someone is sitting in them, that is just plain worthless IMO I want the dang things hot when I get into the truck LOL I thought that was the idea of having remote start and preheating the seats....... Probably has something to do with the cooled feature of the seats there appears to be perforation and probably a gap between the heating surfaces and the seat outside layer. Do not want to hijack the thread just thought that was interesting when comparing to the old generation truck. As someone else mentioned not too many people come on here and spend their time if they do not have any complaints at all. OK GM.... man up and lets get these heated seats recalled lol

The transmission in my 2014 Silverado with the 5.3 and 3.42 gears gets up to 190 to 193 degrees when it is warmed up under normal driving. This is about 10 degrees higher than my 08 with 5.3 and 3.73 gears. What type of trans temps are you guys seeing?

I just towed 6900 lbs 386 miles and my Trans temp never got above 196 degrees.

I just towed this weekend as well. 2 four wheelers 1. 03 Kawasaki prarie 650 4x4 2. Honda rancher 4x4 on a 5x8 wood decked trailer. im assuming it was about 2-3k lbs including luggage in the bed for 4 people for hunting and 4 people in the cab through flat land and hill country. trans temp never rose above 200*F and I avg 13.5 mpg in about 60*-70* temps doing about 75mph sometimes 80 on accident.

I will say that I saw better mpg according to the instant mpg while driving at highway speed in 5th gear but only drove like that for about 50 miles and then stopped at a gas station and just threw it in D and kept truckin. it only knocked my avg up from about 13.5 to 13.6.

Earlier this summer the trans temp got up to about 205 while towing 5,000+ TT from a 300 foot elevation to over 5,000 foot level in 100+ degree heat. About a month ago, it stayed below just 200 while towing same trailer in hotter temps but it was shorter grades uphill with more downhill grades.

Surprised to hear no one has got hot as there were a couple guys pulling heavy that got the trans hot enough to kick on the service light.

Will be interesting to see what the new hood opening does on the '16's as I am sure it is for the cooling stack.

Got 2018 Silverada 5.3L,6 speed auto, tow package. Don't see any transmission temperature gauge. How do know what temperature is or did you all add tranny temperature gauges.

Should be able to display the trans temp on the DIC display.  If it isn't showing up now as you scroll through the different displays you may have to go into the options and choose it.  There is a list of different info to display in the options and the trans temp is probably just not selected.

Good luck

Thank You, I was successful finding the Trans on my DIC. Read Manuel however not real computer comfortable as some others at my age. I fill more comfortable knowing actual temp of trans as I will be towing travel trailer in my 6 speed with tow haul and in 4th and 5th gear in Low 1. Trailer loaded will be around 8400# loaded. Will be watching temperature as we travel.

Glad this thread poked up.  Just this week I did about 30 minutes of highway driving in 40F temps and happened to be scrolling through the info options and noticed trans temp was at 193F and was thinking that seems really high for short distance highway driving in cool temps.  Nice to know that appears to be within the normal temp range.
