LT or P rated tires

Hello all, my 2001 truck I think is due for new tires. There is cracking on the sidewall. Anyways, what do you guys recommend to get, LT or P rated tires. I will not be going off road much if that really matters. Just want a good all around tire. Any suggestions?

I went with LT's for a stiffer ride and resistance to flats. Haven't had a flat since I got them and the ride is great, not really any rougher.

For what it's worth, I will never have P's again, but many use them without any trouble. I just got tired of having to shell out $20 all the time, not to mention wasting time.

So, did you get a lot of flat tires from driving off road or the highway?

Just gravel roads, no real offroading. If you want something a little stiffer you could go for the LT's. But if you haven't been picking up flats and the P's have been working alright for you, I'd get what's cheaper.

Do you travel a lot of gravel roads? My only concern getting p-rated tires is being able to haul heavy loads. Like I still have to haul some gravel for a backyard project.

I wouldn't skimp on buying cheaper tires on a truck. Put what is suppose to be on there. You bought a truck for a reason and if that one time you go to haul something heavy because the truck can handle it, but the tires can't......you could have a bad blowout that could be dangerous.

I went with load range C's on my 99 and was happy with them. The choices were a bit more limited with the 18's on my 08, so I ended up with P-rated Michelin LTX M/S's.

I run BFGoodrich Rugged Terrains in P265/70-17. I use my truck for light towing/hauling ( 5000lb boat, seadoo trailer, snowmobile trailer)

I like the fact that the P tires are cheaper.

Well, I got a set of Cooper Discover AT3 in the LT series. With a $80 rebate is about the same price as some of the off brands. Also, found out that the tires on my truck are 10 years old!
