Ordering Process Opinion Please

So I went to the dealer Tuesday night to order a new Sierra (SLT, All Terrain + package, 22") I spend 3 hours there getting the truck spec'd the way I wanted. Dealer really did not know their product! Anyway, we get it done, they print me the order sheet, I give them $1k deposit, great see you in about 6 weeks.

 

Skip forward to today, I get a call from dealer and am told that unannounced to them there was a price increase and I would need to pay an Additional $1400 (GMS) for the truck.

 

My question is... Isn't the printout and receipt of deposit a contract? My feeling is the dealer should honor the price I was given Tuesday and the price I gave a deposit towards? This really infuriates me and I have half a sense to tell them to forget It! I'll take my business elsewhere. But, I would then have to pay the increase for sure.

 

A price increase! Yeah, the $50,875 the truck listed at wasn't enough!!

No prices are subject to change. When I ordered my 2000 the destination charge jumped a few hundred dollars. It's out of the dealers control

 

If I was you I would try And negotiate it down though, can't hurt

My dealer tried to do that to me, but only after it was delivered...but they wanted $11k more. Apparently a problem with the system when it was ordered. After a week of the dealership and GM deciding who would eat the difference, I got mine at the price given when I ordered and gave the deposit. I still don't know who lost out. Just hoping it wasn't my dealer.

I do remember on tuesday that the guys on the floor at the dealer were I bought my truck that day say that there was going to be a price increase so get ready. So I guess I can verify that it's not bullcrap and the dealer isn't just trying to get more money. Like Jeff said, it's not the dealers fault and it's not up to them but you can now try to talk them down a little further on the price before delivery. I hope they gave you atleast 6 grand off the msrp.

Man, I really want to special order a truck, but I don't think I can handle the dealer coming back at me come delivery and say it's going to be $2,600 more etc. After I paid a deposit on a set price!! Then you have no leverage.

 

Ordering is all new to me, that just could be my fear.

Just for the heck of it I went online today and built the exact truck I have. A GMC SLT CC. Built it the same as my window sticker. The list price went up 1500.00 plus 100.00 more for shipping for a total of 1600.00
