I'm looking for any performance mods that don't run past $500 right now that I can put on a 95 5.7 that has headers and fuel injection (with carb?)

There are some things you can do, like a cam, but you still won't have a whole lot of power. You have to do a lot to the motor to get much. My advice would be to start saving money for swapping in a newer motor. I really like the power of the LS style motors.

I guess I'll have to save up then but couldn't I also do a rebuild and bore it while also using other higher performing parts

also I've heard that 79 camaro stock headers are a perfect fit for my engine

looks like I'm saving for a rebuild kit then

what about carb work it's fuel injected and has a carb on top is there anything that I can do to get that to give me more power whether its a rebuild or a new one which would be better

If you want quick off the line you could get lower gears in the rear (higher numerically), and since its a C series, you don't have to worry about a front differential. 350's were good, but are old school. Like @kstruckcountry said, swap in a more modern LS series motor, like a 6.0 with fuel injection, but that would cost a lot cause there is a lot of wiring and such to do.

Good luck and happy modding! lol

Yes or else when you engage 4wd it will bind up in the transfer case and blow up, and tcases are not cheap

I'm actually in the middle of a predicament where the first shop that set up my front differential did not install a thrust washer for the carrier bearing as well as not torque the adjuster nut all the way down so it came loose on one side. Found this out when I paid the dealer big $ to rebuild it and now I think the gear set is bad because it wasn't setup correctly in the first place. I have way too much money invested in this and will probably cost me more. If you do have gears done let them remove the front diff. that way they can test drive before you get it back. I was trying to save a buck by removing it myself and now its costing me out the ass. Just don't want it to happen to anyone else

That doesn't make sense- is the engine fuel injected or carbureted? I think 1995 used throttle body injection. I don't know what works best on TBI motors but I did find this on another site: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/general-discussion/performance/tbi-tuning-87-95-obd-i-ecm-pcm/435160-best-tbi-350-mods.html

Your truck is TBI..... which is throttle body injection. It doesn't have a carb on it.... it just has a throttle body base with 2 injectors mounted above it to spray fuel into the engine. Archaic but it worked.

And therein lies the issue. You are dealing with a not particularly performance popular fueling system that went out of production. 20 years ago. I have seen guys go as far as trying newer pcms and a multi point injection setup to keep going... but that's just like engine swapping a newer engine and its controls.

Do guys tune chips for it still.... yep. Can you still get parts... yep. Will you run out of fuel on even a mild 350.... yep. Installing a walboro 255 pump and an external regulator to get higher pressure to the injectors helps.... which you need for an LS swap lol. Is all that stuff cheap.... nope. Can you slap a 4 barrel on there... sure.... if you like dicking around with a carb. Just need some basic inputs like throttle position, map sensor and temp to run the transmission.

You can do whatever but tuning is going away more and more those old.computers. 95 is somewhat of a bastard child in many ways you will find compared to 94 and older as well as the obd2 96 up trucks.

An LS swap will be cheaper than properly rebuilding your 350 if you do the work. But whatever floats your boat. A "built" TBI 350 would have a hard time against a totally stock LM7 5.3.....

I can do a real carb swap but then its gonna be a pain in my a$$ to start being in Wisconsin so I'm guessing if I find a wrecked 6.0 or maybe bigger that I could swap it in

For what you will spend on that TBI to make it fast, I would go the route of the LS engine swap. There is a kits for it to bolt right up to the auto trans.

My first truck was a 1990 TBI in 1997.

I ended up swapping in a carburated 406 SBC with a 350 turbo trans.

But that was when gas was $1 also.

Ran a 13.20 all day, driving to and from Baytown.
