I have a 2006 chevy 1500, with 5.3, auto, 4x4. It has 69,000 miles. I was driving home and all of a sudden the ABS light, Brake light, Check 4wd, and service brake system light came on for no reason. I was driving 55 when the flashed up. I noticed that the truck isnt shifting correctly like it is in second gear. I get home and turn it off and it wont even crank, out of 10 trys it will then all of a sudden start up with all these light and messages. All battery connections are tight and battery is new. Never had a problem like this. Can anyone give me any ideas as to what could be causing this?

I guess Im going to try to get it to a mechanic. Im going to have a hard time getting it there due to my work. Do you think it will have codes stored on it?

I think all of them should be stored. A shop should be able to pull them.

But if you feel like messing with it you could check your grounds, I know they can contribute to this kind of thing.

I'm gonna beat Rob to the punch and say you need a pro to scan it, ASAP.

dam it lol,

all those lights and warnings are typically from the low voltage concern ,

,have the alternator checked and battery checked ,i dont care if its new ,,,,you have to eliminate that as a reason ,,,,checking grounds is not nessesary ,,,its not that old a truck unless a guy was messin around with some grounds and yes ,there are a few to check and some are buried anyways ,,,,,check starter connections also

having a scanner check for codes is always a good idea since EVERYTHING on these trucks is controlled by a module ,,,

record the codes ,clear them and run truck again to get an active code ,,,,rescan and diagnoose ,,,,or ,,,take it in ,,,,good luck ,you have a plan now ,i hope you see the pattern on how it would be done at a shop ,,,its called "statagy based diagnostics "

Took truck to the garage this evening. Will post what they find out. Noticed that heater is defaulted to defrost, and transmission is in limp mode also. I cant wait to find out whats going on with this thing.

Update, cost me 90 bucks to have it fixed. Garage found that it had a two wires coming into the bottom of the fuse box, one was corroded really bad and the other one was pinched into. It caused all these problems. Took them about an hour to find and fix. I sure feel I got lucky on this. I have another question, my .5.3 uses quit a bit of oil maybe a quart or so between 3000 mile oil changes. Truck doesn't have but 69000 miles. Is this normal for the 5.3's. Should I be concerned or is there anything that can be done. This is with Havoline oil and ac delco filter. I love my truck but I don't want to keep it if its not going to last. Any opinions?

What weight oil are you running?

You can try switching to a different brand and see if consumption changes

Glad it was cheap.

"Normal" is a tough thing to define. My truck has never burned any oil. I ran the last oil change for 6k and it didn't move on the stick. Has 109k or so on the motor. But there are plenty who have to add a little between changes. Every motor is a little different I guess.

good to hear ,,,,do a search here ,lots of threads about 5.3 oil consumption

In AFM engines..... not in an '06 5.3
