Voice Pass-Thru (Bluetooth)

Recommended Posts

I like the Intellilink bluetooth interface, but lots of times I want to use my phone's voice system directly, like to send a quick text or set a reminder etc.

The "base" radio apparently allows bluetooth "voice pass-thru" so you can use your phone's voice recognition system. (Sierra Owner's Manual, page 7-40.)

Do the standard "connected" radios have this feature? The Manual implies no. I've tried a few voice commands to get a direct connection to my phone but they haven't worked.

Has anybody gotten voice pass-thru to work?

Are you using and iphone? I would bet it will work better that an android in these trucks seeing they are set up for controlling an iphone's music.

If I use Siri on my iphone, the audio comes through the truck and it uses the truck microphone. If that helps. I can text someone using Siri while driving, but of course I never would!! :nonod:

That kind of control is only available when the device is plugged into the USB port right? Over bluetooth, you can just play, pause, ff, rw, and skip fwd and back. No "Play The Joker" over bluetooth.

I'm trying to avoid pulling the phone out of my pocket. I'm imagining some sort of voice command like "bluetooth voice" or "bluetooth pass-thru" or something, and it would be just like hitting the headset button on a bluetooth headset. Direct connection to voice control of your phone (via Siri or S Voice or whatever).

And texting while driving is totally safe if you do it by voice! :D

This works via Bluetooth, even when phone is locked. Just push and hold home button after phone is linked.

I'm not sure if this helps but I can voice dial any of my contacts through voice recognition on the radio screen or steering wheel controls (not Siri). I have the 8" radio screen non-Bose no-Nav. And this is with my iPhone connected only via Bluetooth

Me too, and it works great!

Oh ya I can use voice control via Bluetooth on my android phone as well. The only thing I wish I could do or figure out is send txt messages via voice control...

Thanks for your input everybody. Like I said, I like the voice control in the Sierra. I make calls with it all the time.

But it doesn't do half the things a smart phone can do:

  • "Tell Rosanna I'll be home in 10 minutes."
  • "What is my schedule for tomorrow?"
  • "Remind me to get milk on my way home tonight"
  • "Send a text to Bob Jones"

If I say any of those to Intellilink it says "huh?". I feel like saying "Just let me talk to my phone please."

This works via Bluetooth, even when phone is locked. Just push and hold home button after phone is linked.

This might be my best option. Thanks. Maybe I need to start putting my phone in my pocket screen side out so I can push the button. My habit is screen side in to protect it. (Front Pocket.)

Real bluetooth headsets have a button for this reason.

Hey GM can you give us "Bluetooth Voice" or "Bluetooth Pass-Thru" voice commands even when we have the upgraded radio? Please? The base radio has it!

It appears that "Siri hands free" is not available on Mylink in the 2014 trucks. It does show up in the new 2014 Chevy cars.

Maybe someone from GM infotainment section can tell us when the trucks will get a phone upgrade ?

This would allow voice command directly to the phone and that would allow voice texting.

The manual states that the voice pass thru works with the "base" radio. It states this on page 7-40 of the manual. Can anybody with the base radio confirm this?

I can't find anything about voice pass thru in the mylink manual.

I find the MyLink voice commands to be very cumbersome as compared to siri. I hope GM comes out with an update to mylink that will allow Siri access without touching the phone.

I noticed that on the online manual for the infotainment system.

it states that the voice pass thru is "if equipped" on page 7-92. How come it is included with the base radio, but is "if equipped" with the 8" radio"?

The MyLink works fairly well, however if I need to send (via voice) or listen to a text message, I hold the home button on the iPhone. MyLink isn't that talented. I do wish GM would give the option to have a pass thru for your phone OS of choice.
