I was just wondering how many hours are on everyones truck. Reason being, my friend has a 01 2500HD with the 6.0 (he bought it used 8 months ago) and he only has 14k on it but the hour meter reads 18000 hrs.

I on the other hand have an 02, Z71 with the 5.3 and 26k and I only have 605 hrs.

I understand that the hour meter runs when the key is in the on position correct?

18000 hours is 750 days of running it 24 hours a day. that's more than 2 years.  unless he's had it on ever since he bought it, something's wrong.

my 00 has something like 1200 hours after 50K miles.

ok, It wasn't me honest. I took his word for it, no really I trusted what he said, but after I posted it I went to look for myself and sure enough, that was the mileage, he only has 617hrs on it.  Makes me feel like a dumb A$$.

Anyway how many hours are on everyones vehicles?

How the heck do you check that?

This aint no tractor!!

With the key in the off position, or removed from the column, press and hold the odometer/trip-odometer button on the instrument cluster for five seconds.  The engine hours will display.

I have about 1620 hours on mine.

I love the Hour meter.  I got my truck used so i looked at the Hour meter to tell if this truck was a city or country truck.  The person drove this before avg. 50 mph.

I never new about that, so those are engine hours?  What exactly do they represent?  I have 1006

The engine hour meter displays the total number of hours that the engine has been run.

This includes time spent idling in a parking lot or driveway, time spent waiting for red lights to change, etc..  It does not include time spent with the key in the ON position but with the engine not running (if you leave the truck running in your back yard and it runs out of fuel, the hour meter stops when the engine does).

Most people use it to help schedule service intervals or to determine what kind of use the truck saw under prior ownership.
