Anyone else's truck sound like this at idle?

Just sounds odd to me. Has always sounded this way when I start it up and it idles, maybe it's normal, just thought id check.

The actuators on the injectors are loud on Direct Injection motors. It's totally normal, and a similar sound will be heard on all DI motors. My last car was DI and was noisy as well. Just a price to pay for efficiency.

Other then the 2 to 3 light thuds toward the end, it sounds normal to me. Like fondupot said, DI is noisy.

Also keep in mind with an all aluminum block engine, aluminum isn't the best metal at attenuating sound.

I'm glad you asked this question. I was wondering about the noisy engine.

A buddy of mine had a Toyota Camry (don't quote me on that, all I know it was an Asian model) with direct injection.

 

I can not recall that is was so noisy. I remember a slight ticking noise.

But nothing compared to the noise in the video.

Yes, mine sounds like that for the most part. I'm worried that if I put my exhaust on it, the sound will be louder.

If anyone had a 2000 Silverado or GMC equivalent, you'd understand what what a noisy engine sounded like. I had one and it was terrible with the carbon build up on the pistons issue.

 

On the majority of cars with DI that I've seen, the engine is shrouded in plastic to quite the noise.
