My new 2014 silverado sounds like it has a loud turbo whine under light acceleration. Started at about 1200 miles. It is loud enough to turn heads. Took it to the only dealer in 100 miles and they drilled a hole in my muffler to enlarge the weep hole. Now my truck has a nasty looking hole, a whistle and now a swooshing sound. They ruined my exhaust. I use to like this truck!! They say they called GM and there is no fix. I don't know what to do. This is not normal. It also has a ticking sort or sound at idle they try to blame the injectors. You can hear it 100 feet away! GM wonders why they are not selling. It's not the trucks. It's the service from the dealers when you have an issue

Well I know mine had that issue while at the dealer for a Fuel Pump Recall and was fixed after the new fuel pump and module.

I don't think it's the fuel pump. The ticking is a dull ticking more toward the engine. The turbo sound goes along with the rpm and light throttle. I thought it was a vacuum leak. They say its the weep hole in the muffler. I am going to plug it completely and see if the whine goes away.

Best bet is to drive it hard and put some miles on it. See if things get better as things break in and settle.

Painter 1992,

I have a 2014 silverado 5.3 ltz and it makes the same stupid ticking sound you can hear 100 feet away.

There is a weep hole back by the resonator. I initially did the muffler delete, and it sounded terrible, the weep hole noise was certainly more pronounced. Just put your finger over it, while the truck is running. Not sure I'd permanently block it as condensation will certainly build up in that area.

Ticking noise is nothing more than the direct injection.

The weep hole sounds is like air sucking in if it were a pump right...mine does it while idling every couple seconds.

It's actually pushing air out and has a slight whistle to it. It may be more audible once condensation is present, hence the every couple of seconds. IDK just guessing here.

That's it...you described it perfect. Is it just me or do these new motors sound terrible when just sitting there and idling???

Exactly the same as mine. I even went to the dealer and started 2 new trucks and they were the same as mine. Ticking and s completely normal to DI engines. I would like to see though if someone figures out the whine though.

Well, I removed everything up to the last catalytic converter ( to include the "whistler' and the spring flap BS) replaced with a 18" magnaflow muffler. No more whistle sound and now my truck sounds like a v8.

I originally thought it was a bad torque converter/front main on the tranny bearing or something. That's what my father said too... YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Lol

Yeah, mine ticks too. The only thing I would change about the truck. It's pretty loud in V4.

Well there is a Company who can turn it off and it's not traceable if it bothers you that much. Too expensive for me, for what you get. I'd rather get a tune and have the ability to shut the AFM off.

The "ticking" you describe at idle is the direct injection system. They are louder than standard fuel injected motors. Perfectly normal characteristic of direct injection.
