What's the big deal with GM and the 6.2?

23,000 +/- miles on a 2012 Sierra Denali AWD CC. No problems with the engine what-so-ever. Not used any oil or anything, gets 16.1 mpg average. It been real cold here on the southern shore of Lake Superior, -10 this am and starts right up and no engine noise.

PS - I use 100% 0W-30 synthetic oil, changed that right away when it was new.

Truck is 100% stock except for the complete change over to 100% synthetic in everything....

0W-30? Is that the German Castrol? Used that years ago on my 2001 LS1, was the only thing that kept the lifters or piston slap quiet at start up. Could not find it last summer when I changed the oil in my 6.2 on the truck. So just used Mobil synthetic 5W-30. Will buy the Castrol for sure if it is still available somewhere.

No, not Castrol, AMSOIL AZO 0W-30 is all I have been using since 1996. Its in my CTS and my Denali, change oil once a year.

On an engine with internal damage? You have got to be kidding!

The tune fixes the nanny issues. You don't have engine damage, it's a design issue with the 6.2L where it rattles like a diesel for the first couple of miles when cold (until the block swells). There is a TSB about it. Still doesn't make it right I know.... BTW, my 6.2L does the same, and the oil pan leaks with 30k miles on the odo.

I was hoping the newer rides were better (mine is an '08). For a $60k truck, mine's a POS..... :(

I do not wish to get a tune.

And piston slap and rod knock does indicate damage. Metal to metal contact.

If this was one of the engines I built I would be tearing it down right now.

I paid good money for the truck and I expect to get what I paid for.
