Intellilink Text Message Alert

Ok freerider14. I tried your suggestion and that option is not even there on my truck. So I guess it's back to the dealer to make sure I got "all" of the software update I was supposed to. I know it's not my phone, because on my 2013 Dodge Dart, the notification icon is there. It just doesn't show up on the Intellilink.

Thanks for all the help, but as my truck is an early 2014 I'm beginning to have my doubts if this option will ever work even with upgrade to 4G. If I ever get a call from GM or answer from the dealer I will let everyone know.

Thanks again.

There's a thread on here that talks about the Intellilink update PI doc and the software version numbers that you can seek out from your unit. Find it, find the instructions to pull the software codes, and verify whether you have ANY updates.

My '15 Sierra was an August 2014 build and it worked fine. And that was BEFORE the April update that was applied.

I was surprised to see that this features works well on my new 2015 with the BB Z10. I haven't used it much, but I haven't encountered any problems yet either. (Knock on wood)

I think it is simple as this works on the 15's but not on the 14's. I have a 14 with the updates software including the LTE upgrade. Still no text messaging functions.

You are correct.

Spoke with GM/OnStar and the early builds do not have this feature even with the upgrade. That's why the manual says *if equipped, is in small letters. Good old GM, builds a new 2014 truck and puts 2G technology in it, that becomes outdated within a year and there is nothing they can or will do about it!

And that takes care of my 2 cents on this subject. Thanks to all who commented.

Did you make sure the option in the settings menu is turned to on in the truck?

Also, Did you make sure the "show Notifications" slide is on under the bluetooth menu on your phone?

(I had my truck for a couple weeks of being frustrated, before i realized it was my phones problem, not my trucks)

Fixed it. Thanks.

Pretty sure iPhones don't support text message display.

My 6 plus did on my Murano Platinum, so it's able.

GM clearly didn't invest a whole lot of bucks in their infotainment system(s). It's too bad because these features will become more and more important as the younger generation begins to more commonly afford new vehicles.

GM will invest in it. In 5-10 years when younger generations can afford $50k trucks.

MY Final Post on This Topic!

GM rep called me yesterday. My 2014 (bought Dec 2013) DOES NOT have text messaging. Even though the OnStar was upgraded to 4G/LTE it

still does not support the text msg feature.

Their work around to this, if you really want it, is to use Siri to read your texts to you via Bluetooth.

Just hold the talk button on the steering wheel, as you would the button on your iPhone and when Siri answers have the text read to you. I don't need text msg that bad.

There are 2 modules in the truck, 1 for OnStar and 1 for the radio. It is the radio that supports the text msg and if you have an early build as I do, doesn't matter what GM product it is, truck, suv car, you will not have text msg. GM is not willing to upgrade the radio.

Customer Support says it's hit or miss depending on the phone. Mine isn't working.

You must go to Bluetooth settings, select the vehicle link and there is an option to receive notifications. I do not have this option on the Iphone 5.

Also, have Verizon in case it's caused by provider?

Yes you do. After you have paired your phone. Start the vehicle. Wait for your phone to connect. Go to settings, Bluetooth. You will see GMC Int, Connected. Touch the circled I. Then turn on Show Notifications. Turn the vehicle off. Wait. Turn vehicle on. You will see the Phone and the Text grayed out. They will both then come on. You are not set to go. No prior messages will show with an IPhone. Have someone send you a text. It will show. You cannot reply with an IPhone even with the predetermined messages. Good luck. It does work with a IPhone5.

Should have said: You are NOW set to go.

Mine works on my 16. But it only does it if connected via USB and using Apple CarPlay
