Intellilink Text Message Alert

There is a major flaw with this system. If someone texts you a pic or video and you listen to it, the system chokes for a minute then begins reciting random characters that presumably are data. You cannot stop it aside from activating voice commands and then cancelling. Poor implementation by GM.

Same thing happens if I get a group text as well.

Probably because MMS (pics, video or group message) are sent via the cellular data system and are a different coding than a SMS message which is what text message are.

Works fine for me... Three different vehicles:

'15 Sierra SLE w/ Navigation (traded)

'15 Silverado LT w/ Navigation (new)

'16 Traverse 2LT w/ Navigation (new - not really the same system)

I can't comment on the Sierra because I don't remember, but on the '15 Silverado it shows in the DIC and you press the center button on the right side of the wheel for it to read the message to you. On the Traverse, it shows on the touch screen because there isn't a DIC.

You need to enable the feature in the menus, you need the Notifications option enabled on the BT connection in the iPhone, and you need Notifications enabled within the iPhone for Messages and you have to allow them on the lock screen.

The iPhone 5S and 6 definitely have this option in the BT link as I use it with both. They are both on iOS 8.4 (and I do believe there is a minimum iOS version required for BT-MAP (Message Access Profile).

Start with the settings in the truck - if the menus are there, it's supported. Then move on to the phone and see if you are at a current version of iOS. The iPhone 4 and newer ALL support Message Access Profile with the latest iOS.

Mine displays text messages while driving. Just an SLE with standard Intelilink (not Bose or Navigation or anything).

I have to "click" the message icon in the top bar (the white quick-link ones), then I can click on the text message and have it display or re-read it to me.

Phone is a Droid Mini. Upgrading phone soon, so we will see if this changes. I think GM is on par with infotainment. Frankly, I think the infotainment systems are becoming too involved, and are another distraction for people who already don't pay attention.

works with android, not iOS.

Not true. My iPhone works fine when set up to allow it, wife's works fine in her Traverse.

It's definitely a GM bug. My 2014 Sierra with Nav and Boses System was just upgraded to 4G LTE with wifi. Wifi works but as it is on a cellular connection it is flaky. Text message display does not work. It does not even allow you to turn on notifications on the iPhone 5s, with the latest IOS installed.

My brother works at a GM dealer in Winnipeg and it works on some vehicles in their lot and not others. It's the same problem with Blackberry, so that tells you it's a GM problem. I'm currently waiting to hear back from GM/OnStar technical support. I can hardly wait to here what they have to say! LOLl

Unpair your phone - delete the truck from the phone and the phone from the truck. Power cycle the phone. Pull the key from the truck's ignition, open the driver's door, close the door, and start the truck back up.

Set the notification option in the truck to enabled. Pair the phone. Shut the truck off, open the driver's door. Go into the bluetooth connection on the phone and enable notifications.

In the "Notifications" settings on the phone, make sure you have Messages enabled on the lock screen.

Thanks for the info. I tried that earlier today and it didn't work, so I just tried it again tonight and still nothing. The only part of your instructions I was not able to find on the truck was how to set the notification option in the truck.

Same thing happens if I get a group text as well.

There's a software update to fix this. I mentioned this to my dealer when I took my '15 A/T in for an oil change. When I picked it up, I was told that the infotainment software was updated. The text app works well now.

Everything is working great in my 15', with my iPhone 6plus. There are some slight design flaws, but overall i like it a lot!

Did you make sure the option in the settings menu is turned to on in the truck?

Also, Did you make sure the "show Notifications" slide is on under the bluetooth menu on your phone?

(I had my truck for a couple weeks of being frustrated, before i realized it was my phones problem, not my trucks)

Ok freerider14. I tried your suggestion and that option is not even there on my truck. So I guess it's back to the dealer to make sure I got "all" of the software update I was supposed to. I know it's not my phone, because on my 2013 Dodge Dart, the notification icon is there. It just doesn't show up on the Intellilink.

Thanks for all the help, but as my truck is an early 2014 I'm beginning to have my doubts if this option will ever work even with upgrade to 4G. If I ever get a call from GM or answer from the dealer I will let everyone know.

Thanks again.
