Plug in for 7-Way Trailer on 2014 Silverado

When I plug in the 7-way on my Casita trailer the fit is not tight. The catch on the little door keeps the plug in place but I get a check message as it moves around. I have a "wire tie" style adjustable clamp that came with the trailer, that allowed it to work on recent trip. On my old trailblazer when you plugged in it was very tight and the male part on the truck seemed to be much deeper. Anyone else having these kind of issues? Thanks.

I have found that not all plugs are the same. I have the adaptor plug that goes in to my large RV plug on our trucks. That way I can use the small 7-plug round or the 4-pin flat connector depending on what I am towing. Now... back on subject. The last tilt trailer I bought had the flat 4-pin plug. Cool, I think, I will just plug it in. Nope, it had square edges and my plug had round edges. I dug through my junk and found a small 7 and it ended up being too loose. In this case I had to start over so took my adaptor plug with me to an NAPA store and they fixed me right up. Also gave me a tip about using a dab of dialectric grease on the spades to keep water/ice out.

know what you mean..both plugs are kinda loose in the the bumper too...I also bought a tester that I have to lay down on the ground to see...I would probably stick a screwdriver in the trailer plug end and bend the terminals to create some kinda 'grip' on the terminals....this is an area where there should be real industry standards for the consumer...I have seen some plug ends that will hardly even mate to the truck end. what kind of country are we coming to?

Hello andre9,

Can I be of any assistance? I understand that you have mentioned to your preferred dealership about the issue you are having with the plug for your trailer but they could not recreate your issue. I would be happy to look into this for you and reach out to your dealership. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Had a customer care agent "assist" me with led and reception issue. Started in December still not resolved and haven't heard from her in 3months. So if that is the level of care I get from gm ... No thanks.

Hey guys I am an RV Tech and work on these and all other trucks quite often. The factory plugs on all trucks arent the greatest in my opinion. If you take an angled screw driver or pick you can reach in and spread out the plug connector tabs. this will help create a tight grip when the plugs are connected together. Just be careful when looking in the plug at the 1 o'clock position tab is the 12v live wire if you touch that tab and another you can back feed power to that particular circuit. Also always make sure the 7 o'clock position tab is always clean and spread out. this is the ground wire. the most important function for trailer plugs.

14GFXSilverado I also have a question. Is that wire (connection) at1 o'clock the wire I should use to charge a battery? I would like to add a 12 volt battery in my trailer for extra lights, but I'd like it to charge while I'm towing?

Yes, we have a very loose fit, too! Tape and rubber bands needed to insure that the plug does not pull out of the socket. This was not an issue with the same trailer plug when used on either a Ram or a Ford ...

At a camp ground now. Trailer kept showing no connection on our trip out here. Very poor fit on the truck side of the plug. Never happened with my f150... Still like the silverado better, but there's some work to be done.

I've got the same issue...the tab on the plug door is too far away from the socket to hold the 7 pin trailer connector tight...and that's just in the driveway! Fit is very loose even with no tab.
