AFE Intake and Exhaust installed

About a month ago I had picked up an AFE Stage 2 Si intake and Mach Force XP exhaust from my distributor. I did the install all at once, so I can't really comment on gains made by any single mod by itself. Both of them install really easily (but it helps I have a California truck with no rust or anything of that sort) and overall sound great. Daily driving, once the exhaust had broken in is not intrusive in any way. Yes, there is still some V4 drone, but not bad. I'd say it's kinda Harley-like. I'll break down into the individual components for a deeper review:

Intake: Installation was pretty straight forward. I really like the use of T-bolt clamps used throughout the system (other than the coupler for the intake tube to the TB). Installation pretty much went like this: unplug and remove MAF sensor (some small torx bit, I just used a pocket screwdriver), remove stock intake tube, remove stock box with the in-fender funnel, transfer 1 rubber foot to AFE box, secure filter in box w/ supplied T-bolt clamp, install the strip of weather stripping, mount box in vehicle, install intake tube, install MAF sensor w/ screws provided, install supplied PCV hoses. AFE did leave out 1 clamp for the TB, but I just reused one of the factory clamps. Not a big deal. I'm still running it with the front cutout open. The intake is supplied with a silicone plug.

Exhaust: Unlike some of the older trucks, the factory exhaust can be removed in one piece with the rear axle at full droop. Installation was straight forward. Remove factory exhaust, and bolt the new AFE unit in piece by piece. I did run into a minor snag. The over-axle tube was loose enough in the B-section tube that it allowed the over-axle piece to move fore and aft. Once everything was installed, I laid a small tack with my welder to keep it in place. Exhaust now sounds like it's suppose to. When new, the exhaust is moderately loud, but the tone is pleasing. It quiets down after being on the truck for a bit, so those that may say it's a bit too loud, just wait on it t break in. Photos to come soon.

All in all, I have not noticed any mileage improvement nor decrease. There does seem to be some resonance around 3k RPM at 50-75% throttle. That might be the intake, but I'm not sure exactly yet. Hard to tell on the butt dyno for improved power, but under heavy acceleration above 2.75k RPM, you do gain speed a bit quicker and smoother as well. As far as engine power mods, this is probably where I'm going to draw the line. I'm probably going to install an auxiliary oil cooler since I have a old B&M 15 row oil cooler sitting around. This way I probably can also figure about mounting an oil temperature gauge as well. I'll have to pull the front end off to see if this truck is supplied with any auxiliary ATF cooler as well (make sure it's not just the in-radiator cooler), since I also have a B&M 20 row oil cooler sitting around as well.

Future modifications are going to help improve reliability before something happens (due to overheated fluids), suspension, wheels/tires, and brakes when the stock stuff wears out. I'm probably going to be looking at a Mag-Hytec diff cover and trans pan, King coilovers, 20" (debating on running a 9 or 10" wide wheel) Volk TE37 Large PCD wheels with Falken Wildpeak A/T tires, and throwing on a set of more aggressive pads (probably either Stoptech or Hawk) before I make the decision if the truck needs a big brake kit or not.

Ok... First things first, thank your for the right up, I have never even heard of that exhaust system, I'll have to look it up. Could you post a sound clip?

Second, there was a couple things that I couldn't get past, mostly because it struck me as funny.

Both of them install really easily (but it helps I have a California truck with no rust or anything of that sort)

I'm assuming you own a new 2014 GM truck... I have nothing else to add.

Let me speak on behalf of all Harley Owners and you can quote me on this... There hasn't been nor will there ever be a V4 DRONE that sounds "Harley-like" ,

I just wanted to clear that up, unless by Harley-Like you actually mean "Honda Civic with a piece of stove pipe hanging out the back - like. LOL

Pictures and Video of the exhaust please? I was close to buying this when I first got the truck because it was the only one out at the time.

I couldn't see the picture of the intake from my mobile but now that I can, It looks like a really clean install but it doesn't look like the other AFE intakes that I seen on the 2014 silverado. How noisy is the intake plugged and unplugged under acceleration? More pics of intake please.

Here is the link to the intake install from AFE that I was looking at and wasn't impressed with, I like the enclosed air box like yours better.

Volant has one now - same one for the 2014 5.3 and 6.2. I tried both the Volant and the Airaid... too noisy for me though. But all the CAI's are going to be near the same as for noise. The closed box types will be a little quieter. I send them back and went back to stock.

Yeah. And it's going to have another go today. My pool water level is halfway up the grout line. I think I'm probably going to have some overflow by the time this storm passes through

Sorry about that. Been busy with the business. I got a container stuck in Korea because USDA issued me the wrong damn certificates, so my $50k and ass are on the line right now. I'll get around to it when I get the chance.
