5.3 vs. 6.0

Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying an 05-07 (not new body style) Silverado or Sierra 1500. I have been researching and I found out about the 6.0 Vortec Max. The seem much harder to come by than the regular 5.3 trucks. That being said....

 

Is there a real difference in performance between the 5.3 and the 6.0 that justifies the extra looking around and possibly having to drive farther to get it? I would tune whatever truck I got with black bear, add a cold air intake and an exhaust. I'm leaning towards the Vortec Max (because who doesn't like more power) but I just want your guys opinion on power and what not because I can't easily test drive both trucks considering the nearest VortecMax I found is over 200 miles from me.

Yeah the 6.0 will be great, many times the dealer is unaware and charges the same price. Not many out there.

Vin code N for the LQ9. It is a wonderful engine and mine is tuned by Black Bear and I do have an intake and exhaust

Any reason you're not looking into an 2007-2008 truck?

 

The 6.0 is a great engine. Definite difference between them, especially with a tune. If you step up to a GMT900 6.0 the performance gains are even greater. 2007.5-2008 6.0l have the same heads as the 6.2l. The L92 heads are some of the best flowing heads GM has ever produced. A lot of performance available there.

No. The bore is too small.

The 5.3 is a heck of an engine. I think you will be more than happy with it. If you have gas to waste, get the 6.0.

The 6.0 and 5.3 get about the same economy. I think it is a 1 or 2 mpg difference.

If you're planning on doing heavy towing, I'm sure the 6.0 can tow more. The 6.0 definitely makes more power but the 5.3 is no slouch. For me the cost would have been the real issue, I bought my truck because it was the most reasonably priced truck in its condition in the area. If cost is not an issue, then it seems you would rather have the 6.0 and you're questioning whether you want to drive 200 miles to go and get it.
