6.2 stoplight drags

ok guys, tell ford and dodge that the game is over and it's time to play hardball. [do the math], look at the scoreboard. it has always been: weight vs. horsepower vs. $$$ at the pump.

every pound cost money and at today's gas prices every MILE PER GALLON = around $2,500 over the lifetime of these trucks [do the math]

lots of talk, chevy has 420 hp. not 390 or 417 but that's 460 lbs. of torque. the gas 6.2 gets over 25 mpg on a flat road pulling a small trailer. I have even seen 28 mpg at 35 mph and still pulling my little trailer....this is nothing short of unbelievable, but it's true.

the lightest and most powerful combination goes like this. [added note: this combo will smoke the competition at the stoplight drags. AND THEN WE ADDED N20 FOR 12 SECOND 1/4 MILE]

1] 6.2 comes in the ltz BUT you can get it in a double cab. under $2000

2] the last time I needed 4wd was never. I stopped in a mud bog 18" deep in my old 2wd 89 Scottsdale and drove right out to Wendy's. if you know how to drive you will be able to go anywhere in my state without 4wd when it snows. 4wd adds unwanted cost and weight to our hot rod and it costs more at the pump. 2wd cost is $0.00

3] MAX TOW PACKAGE is the way to get the lower 3.73 rear. it comes with better radiator, extended mirrors, bigger ring and pinion, nice looking 20" wheels, trailer brake controller, frame hitch, 4 and 7 pin trailer light plugs, better springs and shocks. all for under a $1000 on the ltz. if you add something called timbrens to the rear axle you will sit like a dually when you add the tongue weight of a serious trailer, a ride like a caddy when your not towing [$200]

so, 5300lbs. of truck and 420/460 on the gas motor means: this the fastest and lightest truck on the 2014 market, it is also the quietest, it is also has the best gas mileage of any 400 hp truck. it also has onstar, it has a gross combined of over 17,500 ....the corrected trailering ability now OVER 12,000lbs. if you need to pull more weight than this just skip the duallies and go right to a tractor trailer. serious weight over thousands of miles means real trucks, real diesels, and a real cdl.

It may sound like we are bragging to talk about our new Silverado 1/2 ton trucks this way [and maybe we are ], gmc's included too. I am fifty years old and have driven a few vehicles all over this great country. overall gm's have always been easier to work on, cheaper on parts, and able to get nicer looking girl friends. more hot rods have been built around chev. than any thing else. I sometimes wonder if the competition really knows what's up lately with these 2014's. I am speechless at this point only to say, "thank you, Jesus for my Ruby red Silverado."

Why does everyone have to make it competition between Chevy/GMC, Ford and Dodge? Seriously who cares. Drive whatever truck you like the best. PERIOD

I'm glad he likes his truck. These trucks are a bit large for my taste in hot rods. I didn't buy my Silverado to race Fords and Dodges but it's great to know GM has the fastest 1/2 ton. I do think a Regular cab Short box LTZ with a 6.2 would be a really cool hot rod truck. Unfortunately they don't make 'em. Personally I don't want a truck without 4WD. Maybe I don't know how to drive, or maybe the snow and ice in the Rocky Mountains, where I live, makes it a wise choice.

I watched a pre-2003 Duramax run a 10.3@132 last summer. One of the fastest street vehicles that day.

What the heck did they do to it to get that ET?

I've been shying away from getting the MAX TOW PACKAGE because I thought the heavier springs would ride rough when not hauling. The following info from Timbren makes it look like they won't change the ride when not hauling. I thought I wanted the 3.73 for better acceleration. It looks like I should stick with basic tow package with the 3.42

"As you can see in the above Timbren video, Timbren kits are designed to work only when your truck is loaded. They are a direct replacement of your existing suspension bump stop and help support loads once the weight is applied. They work in conjunction with the existing suspension, to improve your ride and to protect the vehicle against the effects of overloading." (quoting Timbren)
