Wanting to mount a fire extinguisher under my rear seat in my crew cab. There is a bolt there that I am thinking I can make a bracket for... looking to see if anyone has done this to give me some ideas.

I have a Amerex halotron 2.5lb extinguisher but I have it wrapped in a shop towel and laying in one of the compartments of the DU-HA underseat storage bin. I'm not sure of any metal available in the area to mount a bracket to. You could screw it to the floor pan, but I would he hesitant to drill through the floor.

From what I read, stay away from chemical extinguishers as they will destroy every electronic solder joint in the vehicle. In other words, you might was well let it burn for the damage the extinguisher will do.

I had mine mounted (double sticky tape) on the hump in my under seat storage bin until I gave it furthur thought. If that thing reptures or decides to discharge while driving on the Interstate, it wouldn't be a pretty situation. I moved it to the top of the driver's side rear fender well ( i have a tonneau cover).

Just a word to the wise on the Halotron extinguishers. They work by removing the oxygen from the fire. They don't coat the burning item or reduce heat whatsoever. Unless all the flamables are already gone from the area, the fire will ignite all over again in very short order. I had to use my Halotron on a fire in my track car and almost lost the car due to fire reflashing.

+1, excellent advice. I carried a dry chem in my race car because of this. Yes it makes a mess and is corrosive, but it prevents the fire from re-igniting when fuel and heat is still present. A guy in my old car club ran his car off the road, got stuck in a field with dry gas and watched the car burn including the new $19k LSX race engine.

Halon is nice, however, for an electrical fire after you've killed all power.

CO2 is a decent agent for vehicles. No residue. Takes the heat out as well as the oxygen.

I bought a du-ha rear seat storage and the 2 pounder or 2.5 that I have fits perfectly.

as for its function, lets be honest.. a 2 pounder may put a fire out, but I doubt it. For me, I HAVE to have it because when you tow a trailer in PA, even just an average joe with a utility trailer has to have one readily accessable.

but the duha worked perfect for what I needed for that, and its a great product otherwise as well
