Problems with the Tow/Haul Mode

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I had our local dealership fix my no start issue. During the process they checked all the electrical stuff (fuses, wiring, etc.) and a few weeks ago I tried to use the tow/haul mode and it didn't work. I'm guessing there may be a blown fuse or something sinple like that that I can just fix myself but the problem is I'm not sure whicj fuse controls the tow/haul function. Anybody know?

Follow the tow haul wire down the steering colum , you 'll find the break , common failure

So you don't think its just a fuse? Do you know which fuse it is to check before I start tracing wires?

Happened to mine, where the shift lever pivots they often break. you likely wont be able to see the break, the wire insulation is very thick. I just spliced in a push button on the column as it is very difficult to fix the wire correctly into the shift lever.

Ya can't get the switch by itself , the lever comes with harness and switch , that justanswer guy is a copy and paste guy just to sound fancy to get paid lol

So Rob, what your saying is instead of messing with replacing the wire I can just go buy a new shift lever, and it comes with the wiring, and everything correct?

correct ,,,but ya can find the break easily and strip off the rigid outer sheathing where its cracked and repair the broken wire for $0

up to you ,,,the wire goes to a connector on the steering colum,,,,easy to see with knee bolster and trim removed

Okay cool. I'll check mine out when I take the dash cover off. Might as well look at it while I'm already tearing the interior apart.

Ok. I'll take it apart and fix the wire. Thanks for your help. You wouldn't think that a 2010 with less than 45K would have this problem though. Must be poorly engineered or something,

The GMT-800s I believe is what Rob is referring to. I drove 2 trucks that had the same thing happen. One was a 99, the other was a 02.
