Led lights in radio

Recommended Posts

I'm seeing more and more of you guys are getting the led lights fixed behind the radio knobs and hvac knobs. What exactly are you telling the dealership? I've tried saying everything, I've even take the brochure and showed them what it's supposed to look like but they keep telling me it's not done. I'm just curious.

Bottom line is some dealers will do it and others are following the GM policy document saying not to fix it because it was a running change. My dealer did mine for "customer satisfaction" but it was before the policy document - they showed it to me right after they fixed it.

The round radio knobs and fan knob on the HVAC should be illuminated just like the headlight control knob on newer builds. See pic below.

NOTE: it is the BLUE lights only on Silverados, not RED Sierra - Sierra were all made with the appropriate control knobs illuminated.

good to know thanks Chuck I appreciate it a lot!

If you look in the owners/user manual it shows colored pictures with the lights working, just pull it out of the glove box and show the salesman, instead of a picture off the internet, that might help?

Good call I may try this plan at my next oil change!

Yes, that AND the original sales brochure as well as the MyLink guide show the lights on. These are what I showed to my dealer's service manager in hard copy form. If you don't have an original copy of the 2014 Silverado brochure, you can get a copy here in PDF form: https://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/Chevrolet/northamerica/usa/nscwebsite/en/Home/Help%20Center/Download%20a%20Brochure/02_PDFs/2014-silverado-1500-ebrochure.pdf

Chuck did they just order a new bezel for it? How did they fix yours?

Posted

They ordered the control panel for the radio and the control panel for the HVAC - two parts/boards.

I have been so happy that I did not have this until I noticed it tonight -_- I thought/hoped I was going to be lucky and not have this happen to me. Oh well. Going to dealership soon anyway!

THIS IS A SILVERADO ONLY PROBLEM. SIERRA WERE ALL SHIPPED WITH APPROPRIATE KNOBS LIT! I see that you have a Sierra...if your trick's control knobs are not lit, there is another issue.

Oh. Well then haha. Yea mine aren't lit. And I do have a sierra. Wonder what could be the problem then.

Edit:

Just checked a few more pics on the internet. Doesn't look like they are lit in the pictures, although I could've sworn I remember mine lighting up. Weird

Sounds like a trip to the dealer. The Silverado issue is that some early builds did not have the appropriate control knobs illuminated from manufactoring, then later they shipped with them. They called it a running change.

Yours must be a failure.

Maybe. Oh well. It's going to the dealer soon anyway becuase my oil life remaining screen keeps resetting itself to 100% although it should be somewhere between 55-60% by now. Dealer tried blaming me for resetting it, but what in the world would is have to gain by doing so? Everytime I get in the truck?! So now they want to keep it overnight so they can change the sensor or module. They were not very clear. If the problem gets fixed then I'll be happy. While it's there I'll have them check into the lights.

Edit:

I can't wait to get there and have them try to blame it on my HIDs or my footwell lights that activate with the domes haha.
