Spare tire is a different size

Just looking at my tires on the truck they are 275's and the spare is a 265. Is there a better place to run the spare if you have a flat? I think my rear axel has a locker or a limited slip. Thoughts…

It's fine. Width is irrelevant, diameter is what matters. You have a 275/55/20 tire and the spare is likely 265/70/17. They're essentially the same diameter.

I mean it is a decent tire, if im out in the middle of no where and get a flat I would have no worries putting the spare on and I wouldn't be thinking to myself "man I hope this spare holds up" the only reason it wouldn't is if a nail or something got to it (assuming I inspected the tire and made sure there was not separation major dry rotting cracks and the proper amount of air in it). it's not like a temp tire that cars come with and they didn't put some no name brand tire on there that will separate before leaving the parking lot. now would I buy a set of the goodyear brand that is my spare, no. do I trust it as my spare, yes. will I eventually replace it with an 18" bfg, yes. am I in a rush to do that, no, it just personal preference.

Yeah I had that setup in my camaro too... Didn't have the car long enough to get a flat but that pump and fix a flat didn't give me much confidence.

 

Anyone know the largest tire you could fit as a spare in the stock location?

that spare is more than adequate to get you somewhere even 1000 miles. Would I want to be towing heavy and run that spare forever or put 1000s of miles on that spare probably not. But

That spare is nicer than most spares that other vehicles use. most use a compact temp spare that cant go over 55mph for more than 200 miles. At least the spare on the truck is a regular ole tire.

The Shake and Vibration thread has over 100 pages of people complaining about the Goodyear tires GM uses and people saying they are crap. Say that the spare is a crap wheel and tire and people get defensive, go figure.

 

I have had one flat on a 14, a loaner Z71 that had the stock Goodyears. Driving in the field a stick punctured the crappy sidewall of the puny stock tire. So IMO the stock spare on a Z71 4x4 truck is crap. When you put street tires as stock on a Z71 4x4 they are crap.

 

But then maybe if you are only using your spare when you have a flat on paved roads the spare is completely adequate.
