Hi everyone,

New Forum member here. Please don't flame me if I'm posting this question on the wrong thread.

Just got my new 2014 Silverado LTZ on my 50th birthday in February. I live in Ontario, Canada and I noticed that my truck was assembled in Mexico (according to my VIN) Should I be worried? I am experiencing some minor issues since I have gotten the truck.

Any helpful tip and or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Why should you worry about your truck being built in Mexico? GM along with many other manufacturers have been building cars there for decades.

They are all made to the same specs in all the factories. In past years the Silao Mexico has been pretty good quality wise. Dont worry about where it was made, drive it and enjoy it.

+1, the crew cabs have been assembled there since 07 or so I believe. My family's had 3+ 900 crews with minor issues at best

Thanks everyone for the replies,

I asked that because I heard horror stories from people and that got me a bit concerned. I worry too much LOL!

Just blind, unfounded racism. I am sure the plant in Mexico puts out the exact same quality in vehicles as the American plants. The workers just do the same jobs for less.

It is crazy how many claims people make that are taken for facts when they are completely unsubstantiated. Blanket statements of foreign manufacturing quality with no proof whatsoever. Just blind assumption.

The first I heard of Chevrolet assembling vehicles in Silao Mexico was probably in the mid 90s when my friend bought a Suburban that was made there. Couldn't tell the difference between it and those around that time that were made here.

Negative opinions of foreign manufacturing exist for a reason. Look at china. The only way they can make anything of quality is with the direct involvement of a company from a country that knows what it's doing. Despite their constantly stealing patents from us and other western nations and having backing by their govt, most of what they make on their own is trash.

That said, I can't recall anyone having issues traced specifically to the plant in Mexico.

I'd be more concerned where exactly GM is sourcing their powertrain assemblies and vast array of vehicle electronics components rather than what part of the world it's all being put together on an assembly line.

GM has operated in Mexico for 78 years.

Not exclusively. My sons 2012 Silverado 1500 CC was assembled in Flint, MI. He bought it in Laramie, WY back in April 2012.

I think all the 2013+1500 CC are now assembled exclusively in Silao?

Flint assembles the HD 2500 and 3500's only now, as I understand it?

Since 1936 ? Wow, that's a long time !

Flint only seemed to do a small run of 1500 crews now and then. By far most were from Mexico. Think that began in 2010.

I'd rather have Hecho en Mexico than made in USA from a worker pride point of view. I have a Mexican crew and wouldn't have it any other way.

It's not like you have a choice any more anyway? How does your frame look?

I'm pretty pleased with my Double Cab assembled in Roanoke, IN (Ft Wayne Assembly).

My sons 2012 Silverado CC assembled in Flint has been trouble free. Something not many can say about the 2014's in either configuration.
