They are made for people that want the flexibility later. 4600 is for people that want stock height only.

Not surprised as ranchos are literally 30 dollar replacement shocks, they have the worst ride quality of any shock I have ever used. Why though would you go with the 5100's if a harsh ride is what you don't want, the 5100 series I believe is made for lifted trucks that are not meant to spend most of it's time on pavement. The yellow originals is what I would be looking at if I wanted a firm planted feeling but without sacrificing ride quality.

there is a difference between a nice firm riding shock and a harsh shock. ranchos to me are pretty harsh. my truck while on pavement most of the time... during hunting season spends a fair amount of time off road. 5100's are the best of both worlds.

I don't think 5100's are made specifically for lifted trucks, if anything they are more of a sport shock... They help eliminate the rear sliding when accelerating/braking on rough spots. Also more controlled on the highway, you don't feel wind gusts and humps in the road as much.

By all means not a bad choice with the 5100 series but if this is going on a stock truck that the owner is looking for improved ride quality which I thought this thread was about then the yellow originals which are every bit as good as the 5100 series as far as highway and on road performance goes would be the better choice imo.

The ones I have aren't designed for a lifted truck apparently, because they are a stock height shock. Whatever they are designed for they are way better than factory.
