Reversed Polarity

My son just called and told me that he put the battery in backwards in his 2009 Chevy Silverado. He now has no electronics. Is there an easy and quick way to get him going again?

Have him check all the fuses and replace any that may have blown. Then make sure the battery is reconnected properly and see what he's got.

He doesn't have a meter with him he used the battery for a boat he is about 800 miles away. He did take the fuse link that was in the cable and had it checked at an auto parts store, it was good.

I have seen this happen many times in my Dealership days, he will most likely want to call his insurance company and a wrecker. I will bet he has fried at least 4-5 modules maybe more. They do not like reversed polarity at all!!

I called and told him to look again for more fuses that may have blown. he said the auto parts store is about ten minutes away. I told him to take a picture of the fuse box with his phone before he starts removing fuses and then can't remember where they go. He is going to try that, and then go from there.

Reversed polarity will not blow fuses, it isnt going to draw more amps backwards than forwards (if that makes sense) he smoked some circuit boards for sure

Sounds like it's

No failsafe. You just need to use the human brain. I'd do as Nitro recommends. Wrecker and ins.

Toast.........I told him what Nitro said and he is going to call the tow truck and the insurance company. My son was supposed to come home this weekend from Texas A&M, not sure if that's going to happen now. I hope the insurance company covers this. Thanks for everyone's help.

Yes, he should know better. I have a feeling they might have been drinking before they put this battery back in. Right now, he's freaking out a little bit. These kids are aging me, giving me more grey hairs.

On the left side of the firewall where the battery cables attach there is a mega fuse under a black cover. Have him check that if he hasn't already.

Hey I just wanted to thank all of you who posted ideas.

Here's the update.

After this all happened my son had mega fuse and other fuses tested at a local auto parts store, fuses were all good.

Got it to the dealer and the mechanics found that the mega fuse was actually bad, they replaced the fuse and it started right up.

$65.00 total, plus a fuse.

Got lucky this time.

Thanks everybody
