iPhone bluetooth automatic takeover

Recommended Posts

Huy guys... just got back into truck ownership with my new '14 Z71 Crew cab. I have bluetooth setup to my iPhone, but find it maddening when calls get automatically pushed to the truck's audio system when I started them with the handset before the truck was started... oh, and the truck mic taking over for Siri is horrendous..

Any suggestions on how to limit these features to stay with the phone's audio speak/mic?

You can switch back on the phone or just disable Bluetooth. Not sure if there is any real way to do what you're looking for.

There isn't, if you don't want it to kick over then turn the BT off on the phone. All GM and Ford vehicles do this.

This is an issue for me also. I miss text messages when listening to the radio. The only time I hear a notification is if I'm streaming music over Bluetooth. I really wish carplay had come with the 14.

With the new iOS (8) there is "hey Siri", a command that wakes Siri if the phone is plugged into power.

It works through the audio system on the truck and I found it also works by pressing the voice button on the steering wheel.

You can ask Siri if you have any messages or notifications and she will read them to you.

You can also turn off automatic switching in Settings on the iPhone.

Edit: I thought I read where you could choose to select auto or Manusl, but evidently not. "After you have paired your iOS device with a Bluetooth car kit, your iOS device connects to the car kit automatically when you start your car (if you have your iOS device with you and Bluetooth is turned on)"

It does say you can select audio or AirPlay and choose phone or other device. You can also turn off Bluetooth.

cant you turn off auto connect on the iphone? i know on android you can pair it, but not allow it to connect unless you specifically do when you want to.

On Android you wouldn't even need it to not auto connect, you can set the profiles for that bluetooth connection to be phone audio, media audio, or both. That would be the best answer here, but I can't comment on if Apple has that setting since I don't have iphones. The mylink screen should also have a touch button come up to send the call to the handset instead of the vehicle.
