Besides replacing the transfer case module, which probably did not need to, they replaced terminal 9 on X1 connector.

An explanation of the cause is X1 connector had no terminal drag on terminal #9 which results in transfer case control module internal failure (code C0392 sympton 8).

I think they fixed it.

Update: Dealer found loose wires on the TCCM. After tightening all connections I haven't had a single 4wd service message since. It's been over a month and a half now and it's been perfect. They tried reprogramming it several times but that never worked on mine.

Still kind of strange that the problem began the very next day after the reprogramming, but I guess that in hindsight it was a coincidence.

Hats off to my dealer, they were very professional in solving a rather frustrating problem without taking the transmission apart or changing hardware. Now I have a wonderful truck once again and it runs great.

After reading your post I went back and checked the work order on mine to see what other details were available. The same code was set as on yours (code 0392 symptom 8 )

My 2014 is stuck in 4 hi and has been reprogrammed to no avail. It has a code C0398 and GM is saying the cold is the issue! Seriously???? Now I drive around in 4 wheel drive all the time destroying my front end on dry pavement and getting horrible gas mileage! But hey...a fix may come some day when the weather warms up! I guess I bought a summer model!

Blizzard722 demand that the harness be checked for pins making contact. My dealer took time to check the harness. Bring it back and check with yout BBB for your state's lemon law.

Hi Blizzard,

We understand why this is concerning to you and would be happy to contact the dealer on your behalf for additional research. Feel free to send us a PM if this is something of interest.

Sincerely,

Eddie A.

Having this issue on my '14 Sierra too. Just started today, 6 days after having the transfer case recall done. Mine seems to be stuck in 4hi. Hopefully gm gets this sorted out.

Seems my ongoing problem of the Suburban shifting into 4w Hi all by itself and then being stuck there has so far been solved but not before at least 4 trips and many different "flashes" to the stupid computers that GM seems to think are needed for this process. On the last trip in I was told that GM had FINALLY announced a recall using yet another, different flash file.

They also replaced the "clunky" drivers seat but still have yet to replace the entire sunroof. This is apparently the only fix they have developed for the problem of not being able to close the sunroof when going about 55-60 or faster. Anyone else tried to close your sunroof while traveling on a freeway? The system that causes the roof to stop and backup when something or someone is caught in the way can't pull the wind deflector down so it stops and reopens. Just great!! There are other electronic problems happening. I'm tired of driving a computer.

I've been having a service 4WD message appearing on my 2014 Silverado. Since they have made that software update for the transfer case, it is the second time the message has came on. Now not only that I need to bring the truck in for the sixth time, every time I bring it in my wife has to take time off her work (can't drive as I had neck surgery). Now to top things up, the other day a "Faulty engine power" message showed up and all this with less then 10,000 KM on the vehicle. According to my dealer, apparently this message is due to a faulty throttle body oxygen sensor.

I had the 'fix' performed in December and all was well until yesterday. Using 4x4 on the sude roads of New Hampshire friday and saturday. Temps warmed up from 0F to 26F by night time. Going out to dinner, temps dropped to teens and then it threw the code 'service 4 wheel srive'. Today it has clearsd itself and was able to get to normal 2 wheel drive for the 100 mile return to home trip.

I assume its reset because the indicator light is lit for 2 wheel drive and can cycle through all drive and 4x4.

same issue with 2015 canyon

park it in auto on a cold night, service 4x4 message, stuck in 4hi, take it to gm, relearn tccm...take it home park it and error is back (cold night again)

Picked up the truck and was told there were no codes stored. The tech stated that these kinds of codes clear from memory after a certajn number of key starts. I asked how many but he did not know.

"If you going to pee on my leg, do not tell me its raining". This was the fourth documented visit.

Hope this fix works for you too. 2014 Silverado stuck in 4WD Auto (as indicated on the selector, but felt more like 4WD Hi while making U-Turns).

1. I switched the key to ON position (engine off) 2.Turned the knob to 2WD position, I pulled the connector marked J3 under dashboard (module close to the gas pedal)

3. The truck shifted to neutral by itself and seconds later the light on the knob was showing 2WD selected and voilà.

My connector was easy to pull and this maybe the source of my problems. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

took mine in today for the service 4wd message dealer called and said it is the wire harness and they are replacing it and had it in stock so they must be finding out it is a wiring problem if they had it in stock .
