I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing here. The "buffeting" pressure in ears that I experienced had nothing to do with the V8/V4 AFM mode . I experienced it when traveling at low speed (10 mph) down a bumpy dirt road. The engine was in V8 mode the entire time.

I'm with yukontruckman, I drive mine in M7 so the V4 mode never kicks in and the buffetting issues don't change.

I just spoke with my dealer yesterday about a plan of repair for my Yukon Denali XL and he said GM is telling him to; pull the headliner and glue the roof back on the the roof bows, road force balance the tires etc. Mine is a 2015i and was built on Oct 6 2014. I find it interesting that GM is telling those who had older (as in early production models) that the newer ones don't have the problem but is telling my dealer that thoes are still issues. It feels to me like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing or saying.

...left hand not knowing the right.... Nah. Seems to me GM doesn't have a clue and the likely reason they don't is because they haven't made finding out a priority (as in event code 1100).

Re-glue the roof on a truck that was built just two months ago.....Absolutely ridiculous.

 

Carz, check with Jason and others here before you let the dealer tear into your truck. They had the roof repair TSB performed and claim it did not fix the buffeting problem for them.

Yup...that hasn't been the fix. Some have had GM buy back their trucks after the fix failed to take care of the problem. The lack of communication between GM departments on things like this is astounding. There was a very real issue with the bonding of the roof but that hasn't solved the buffet issue.

Ladies and Gents I have a story for you.. Let me start off by saying that this all started about 4 months ago in a county far far away. I placed an order with a small town dealer (which by the way I really like and will certainly do business with them in the future, the are great people and in all ways wish them the best of business success) for a Yukon XL SLT 4x4 no sunroof, 18" wheels.. All is well and the wife is excited about it. We then proceed to rent a suburban in the land of fruits and nuts (California) for use over a weeks vacation and thats when we noticed the pressure issue to the point of returning the suburban to get something that would not cause such head pressure, dizzines etc in my entire family. I thought that maybe that was a fluke until I found this forum that discussed the exact issue I was having with the rented suburbans. I proceeded to tell the dealer that I was not a buyer but unfortunately this unit was already in line and cancelling was not a possibility. At this time, I very clearly outlined why I wanted to cancel, he did look into it for me with some GM folks somewhere but found nothing. Meanwhile, the unit is being bult. (Nov 9th build date, 2015i, cool wireless charging pad, a very nice interior by the way, nice job with that GM (no sarcasm, it is very nice)). Dealer calls, says I know you didnt want it but come drive it and maybe it will be all perfect and you will give me your check for $65,000 OTD +/-. He hands me the keys says come back before dark (as I told him that I needed a very long test drive to make sure this one had no issues). My dear wife (the boss) says lets go and off we went down the road. 1-25MPH no major issues except is sounds like you are inside a cave. Kind of a hollow sound and you can hear every little bump in the road from the suspension as a pressure change in your ear. As we leave town and I can accelerate a bit, it begins, the wife looks at me and says there it is. At about 40 or so, the truck has that pulsating pressure in your ears like you cant clear your ears on take off. All windows are closed, radio off both of us silent. (Imagine plugging your ears lightly with your fingers and talking and get the idea that you are talking in a vacuum and you hear every little thing as a pulse of pressure on your eardrum, I mean everything, like little bumps in the road, gravel etc because you cant clear your ears no matter how hard you try). We made it about 10 miles out of town and said lets at least try this for a short jaunt on a dirt road (as we have about 20 miles of dirt road to go on every day). As soon as we left the pavement the sound of the cattleguard was so loud in the cabin (as an increase in pressure on the ears not a literal loud sound) my wife said we have to stop so I can catch my breath. As soon as we open the door and stop the pressure is "released" and the pressure almost resets to zero (hard to explain). She looked at me and said we have to get back to the dealer soon. I turn around drive it into town (opening windows every once in a while to "reset" the pressure) and promptly hand the keys to the dealer. He was obviously very dissapointed (as were we) because it really is a heck of a nice rig. At that moment, my wife begins to walk around the lot trying to avoid throwing up (this part of the story is without a happy ending) . I was dizzy and could not clear my ears for about two hours after the test drive and she is not feeling well still (after about 4 hours). You can call me overly dramatic, full of organic matter or anything in between but this unit is unsafe to drive by anyone sensitive to these changes in pressure. I tried very hard to hear anything at all in the speakers and could not. I tried to hear anything but the pulsating pressure in my ears would be so distracting that driving was the last thing on my mind. I actually told my wife, this pressure issue makes me irritable (to say the least) and very uncomfortable. So in conclusion (just like my 3rd grade teacher told me to write, an intro, the body and a conclusion or something like that), I really dont think it is in the radio, I think that they have made these cabins so darn tight with their multiple seals etc that it sounds like sound waves cannot escape (does that make sense?, hey I am a rancher not an engineer). The longer we drove it the more intense it became until we opened windows and then it would get better for the next 20 seconds or so until it built up again. Anyway, I have rambled on a bit I reckon but will chime in here some more later. My wife really does not feel well, and yes due to the test drive. Sorry GM you need to figure this one out. In the meantime what do I get to haul my herd of kids around? What about a bluebird school bus? GM, I have a check for you for $65K do you want it or do I go elsewhere? Get this fixed and we can do business. Its a heck of a nice rig with a very serious flaw (in my mind, pulsating at the moment).

Been following this thread for a while since we wanted to buy a new Yukon. Finally found a 2015.5 today in the config we wanted. Drove it and not sure if I'm experiencing what you guys have noted. No noise or "window down" sound but I was feeling the pressure in my ears and a headache after driving for about 20 mins. I decided to wait and think on it. Weird thing is after being home for a few hours I still feel like my ears need to pop. I may have a simple sinus congestion since a front moved through today. Wish I could discern the real issue. This one was built in November. SLT 2wd.

The only way this is going to get fixed, IMHO, is some one will get ill, dizzy due to this problem, have an accident...it makes it to NHTSA about the time the court case makes it to the 5 o'clock news.

So for folks that have the pressure, headaches and dizzy spells, how long did it last after getting out of the vehicles?

Andymac, you're right on par with how our SLT was! You may also be right about the cabin being so tight, that it isn't letting any pressure escape.

 

Maybe the cabin vents are too small or maybe not venting at all? Anyone know where these vents are??

 

Just throwing around ideas. This isn't the noise canceling( or is it?), a detached roof, unbalanced tires, defective shocks or driveshafts.. What the heck could cause this ridiculous issue??!?

Ours' would last hours after riding. Initially, our SLT gave me spells all night at 1st, but then it lessen after the truck had more miles put on it. Our current Denali has the pressure, but not the headache, dizzy kind of symptoms.

andymac...... nice note. GM Customer Service, cat got your tongue? Or can you not respond because you just drove a 2015 YUKON and your feeling nauseous? As the creator of this thread, if there was a way to block future comments from you (GM Customer Service), I would. Until you have some meaningful info to pass along, keep your "approved" responses to yourselves. Not only are they silly, they make you look uneducated. I am really hoping you know more than you are leading on. I want to buy another one, and as it seems now, the people on this thread want the issue to be fixed more than GM. We (the guests who have posted) have done more R&D than you. Although the Ford Expedition L is no where near as nice as the YUKON XL, it's looking and sounding better everyday.

Was feeling good after ordering a 2015 Suburban on Nov 19th,then I found this forum and really don't know what to do. I informed the dealer about this forum and especially this topic and they say no problems on their end. I'm going back to take a much longer test drive to see how I feel during and after it. Anyone else waiting on a new order?

Just drove another one. Early model 2wd Denali with the 6 spd. Wife drove it this time. I could feel the pressure but no headache this time. Wife could feel it too but it didn't bother her. I could most definitely feel it when it switched to V4. I'm probably overly sensitive to it since I am congested already.

Wow. I can't believe this is really an issue. My wife and I bought a 2015 Yukon XL Denali at the end of October. We actually ordered it in June. We were getting annoyed it took so long to come in. Now, I wish it never came in. Anyway, after about a month of driving it, I decided that yes, there definitely was some kind of "buffeting" noise. And yes, I too think it sound like when a rear window is open. So, I mentioned it to my wife and she said she noticed it the day we brought it home (my god, why didn't she say something. I would have drove it right back to the dealership!). Anyway, that eliminates something that degraded in the month we've had it.

 

OK, here are some things I've observed and am thinking:

 

- so, I also notice a "buffeting" noise. I can feel the pressure on my ears and hear the "whomping". Like a sub-woofer gone mad. (Side note: does anyone feel the sub-woofer actually works? Seems almost none existent to me. Where is it even located?)

- it is very annoying to me. No headache, but longest trip I've taken it on is about 20 minutes to run errands. It does annoy me and is extremely tiring on the ears. I can't imagine taking it on a 3 hour road trip. Would be torture.

- my wife definitely notices it but only at higher speeds.

- I notice it starting at very low speed, something like 20 or 30 km/hr (ya, I'm from Canada). I really notice it when slowing down. Seems to stop at about 20 km/hr.

- in fact, it stops so dramatically, it's almost like a switch being turned off. Which initially made me think it was something to do with the electronic shocks (magnetic ride blah blah blah), or the noise cancelling. I wouldn't be surprised that both of those are speed activated and turn off and very low speed.

- as a test, I removed the fuse from the "real time suspension" system which I assume is the electronic shock damping, and to be honest, it seemed slightly better. Less pronounced at lower speeds, but still there. About the same at highway speeds.

- I am going to try to pull the fuse for the sound system to see if defeated the noise cancellation does anything.

- but, now I'm reading this thread and seeing all the discussion about the roof and the not being connected to the cross members. Really GM? Are you kidding? What a pile of junk. Even if it is not the cause of this noise, how can they put out such a POS? But it did make me think. When I picked up the vehicle on delivery day, I happens to notice 4 "dimples" on the roof, evenly spaced out. Now, the these are not easily noticeable. The only reason I saw them is that the dealership's delivery stall is a one level below the showroom and I could stand and look at the new, shines roof. I pointed it out to the dealership and they checked and all the ones on the lot were the same. Now, is it related? Can't say for sure.

- so, I guess the next step is to contact the dealership and start the whole fricken process. I can't believe I'm going to have to go through the pain and agony of trying to get this sorted out on an $84,000 vehicle. Man, Obama should have just let GM die the death they deserved to die!

 

Well, we'll see what happens. What a pain.
