A reader left an interesting comment in the AutoGuide article - hiring a third party that specializes in Noise and Vibration to diagnose this issue.

 

Does anyone have any idea how much this might cost?

Most of the ones I work with are around $250/hour, but I doubt they would be set up to work on a rolling chassis like this. Those guys usually focus on larger interior spaces like buildings, aircraft, ships, etc. The principal would be the same, but the modeling software would not be set up the same way.

 

As an update on my new one, we took it on our holiday travels and racked up around 800 miles on it. Uneven/broken pavement still results in the booming and buffetting, but it is now transient instead of being there constantly. The 35-50 MPH range is still the worst when it occurs. Highway speeds are, by and large, pretty smooth. Not perfect, but better than the previous car by a long shot.

 

One thing I found interesting is that on my work order from the repair attempts on my last vehicle there is a comment about "calibrating the ANC, found to be in spec." I had thought that only the Denali/LTZ/Escalade has that option, but there must be some lower-end system on the lower trims to try to help the situation.

I know you are aware, but the SWB doesn't guarantee booming/buffeting free. Will be interested to see if you are able to find a SWB that is problem free.

 

 

The Short wheel base 2015-2016 Tahoe's, Yukon's and Escalades ARE JUST AS BAD ! We are on our 3rd brandnew SUV since 9-2014.

2015 Yukon 4x4 SLT = GM goodwill buyback

2015 Escalade swb 4x4 = Ca lemonlaw buyback

2016 Escalade swb 4x4 = opened new GM case file today!

 

The 2016 Still has ALL the booming, buffeting, and droaning noises. Pretty sad when you go out and buy a 20K Scion to drive to work, for the $87,000.00 pisses me off to drive it at all ! Just did a 1400 miles road trip over Christmas, had to stop at the Bose store and buy noise cancelling headphones. The V4 exhaust droaning is so bad on the freeway. And the booming over the smallest pebble in the road is insane......

 

COME ON GM.......BUILD A SUV THAT'S WORTH THE 90K YOUR CHARGING FOR THEM !

Has anyone noticed how much the hood flexes at hwy speeds? The center area of the hood on our 15 XL flexes like a flag blowing in the wind.

Yes, I have noticed that. I'm actually starting to wonder if there is something going on in the front end of these. There are a couple of design "features" GM added to these vehicles. There are braces from the centre of the fender to the cowl that pervious pickups didn't have. And, there is some kind of strut under the dash that ties the firewall to the dash somehow (read that one in the marketing literature).

 

I wonder what would happen if the bolts were loosened for a test drive?

after 2 days driving with new nexen tires and disconnecting the crab mag shocks,the car is so smooth and comfort.

Weird. Early on, I disabled the active suspension (shocks) by pulling the fuse to that system and it did not help the ride, the drone, or the buffeting. The ride did get worse in that the vehicle wallowed thru dips and around corners!

 

Might have to try thus again. How dis you disable just the front shocks?

i didnt pulled the fuse,i disconnected the wires clip in the that controls the mag shocks,just open the hood and u can see it on the right side of the shock,both side(you will get a message in the dash cluster saying service suspension system,i just ordered a set of bilstien 4600 shocks going to install them once they arrived,

I don't really think you should defeat your active suspension. You paid a lot for it. The trucks were tested for thousands and thousands of miles with it before the vehicles were released. All stability control was done with it active. It is supposed to be there working as designed. Defeating it is sort of like to breaking your finger so you don't feel your broken arm.

 

The body should not resonate within the frequency range normally experienced by the vehicle. That is just design 101. Vehicles vibrate if for no other reason because roads are not flat. If the body is resonating, the body is the problem and needs to be addressed.

At the touch-less car wash I notice it when the dryer kicks on. The hood flexes like crazy.

 

Funny, just ran into a guy with a 2015 Suburban LT. GM is buying it back because they can't get rid of the vibration when the truck hits 70 mph. I've read the Cadillac forums and a lot of the Escalades seem to have the same problem.

I owned a gmt900 yukon denali for almost 8 years,the x denali had an autoride shocks and who had this car before knew how it is uncomfortable with high speeds specially over 87mph u feel like riding a horse,at that time i disconnected the autoride shocks and replaced them with normal gas shocks,the sevice manager said it is not safe and the car is designed to with autoride shocks etc etc,but let me bring your attention that the yukon slt and the lt tahoe both has normal gas shocks and they share with denali and escalade same drifetrain and subframe,my brother have mercedes g63 that cost double escalade and he replaced the oe shocks with other comfort shocks and the car run perfect,at the end this is the fix i think it will keep me enjoying and driving this suv.

Uaedenali - You had the dealer fix the bows and differential. Did you pay for the new tires, shocks to replace your disconnected OEM shocks, and V8 to V4 tune? If so, I don't think any of what you did will void your warranty (may want to check on the tune) but you are hitting known problem spots, good for you.

 

Why didn’t you get a smaller wheel to also test? Do you have second row captains and 4x4?

The roof has been fixed twice by different dealers, and both of them did the same service bulletin that GM announced, for new tires I paid, and the tires I am using is half the price of the OE tires cost $600 4 set nexen roadian HP which worth every penny and I love these tires, now for the shocks, I know this dealer more than 12 years and they knew the car has those issues and gm could not have a remedy action so i will do it my self, when i unplugged the mag shocks,i took the service ENG for a ride to the worst road we have and he was so surprised how the car is smooth so i stop the car on the side and showed him what i did, off course he warned me that I shouldn't unplugged and GM wont accept but did gm care about us, for tune,offcourse if GM knew they will void, I don't have second row captains and yes its 4wd.

Read in your posts you only had vibration and droning, no pressure or buffeting? Next time you speak to your tech, ask the question if disengaging the mag shocks equivalent to the ride of the PRS (Premium Ride Suspension). Why buy more shocks if you drove on a bad road and the ride was smooth, just leave them disconnected? What type of work did they do with the differential?

 

Does anyone have pressure and buffeting with the bench second row and no 4x4?

      It wouldn’t have happened if the government hadn’t mandated outrageous fuel mileage standards. It does very little for the consumer. It adds cost. Back during Covid there was a chip shortage. They gave a rebate for your truck if it didn’t have the chip to turn on cylinder deactivation. It was 50$ because at best you may see 1/2 a mile increase per gallon. Splitting hairs each fuel mileage trick wasn’t mandated. The government doesn’t do the engineering work and say use this until it’s already in use and they like it. The fuel mileage was mandated. And those add ons the results. There’s a mandate and they are the results.

      It was never mandated.  Ever.    Automakers were incentivized to install it by getting CAFE credits to help with their vehicle fleet fuel economy scores.  They were being handed money/CAFE credits to install it.  Which is NOT a mandate.       The current admin removed the incentives that were behind them installing it.

      My brand new 2007 Silverado's wax frame was rust from end to end partway through it's SECOND winter here in MA. That stuff is completely useless.
