fender flares

I'm looking for some fender flares for my 2014 silverado 1500 crew cab 6.5 inch box. I like the gmc flares, but know they won't fit on a chev. I would like the smallest flares i can get. Any ideas?

I'd like to put the GMC flares on my Silverado as well, but from what I've read, it's not do-able. Bushwacker makes some, but I don't care for them. The search continues.

I loved the chrome accent flares (1/2") I had on my '02 GM... These would likely accentuate the squared off wheel wells on the '14 and look weird though. Don't mind the colour matched bushwacker style but would like to see some more options

i like the fender flares but you can't (GM doesn't recommend) install the splash (mud) guards. Too bad you can't have both. The splash guards give me protection for my step (assist) bars and underneath the truck.

To some degree, the flares provide more protection for the steps. You should be able to add a flat stiff splash/mud guard to the flares, if desired. Most of them are some kind of plastic (polyethylene, polycarbonate, etc). You could even make some or modify some off-the-shelf type to your desires.

I did that with my 2002 with fender flares and splash (mud) flaps and it didn't look good because it wasn't made for it. The flares stick out more than what the flaps could cover. I made them fit okay but had regrets after.

 

The splash (mud - GM molded guards) flaps work better because my step (assist - 4 inch oval steps) bars all fit directly behind the flaps. I am only using a little wider than the stock tires which don't stick out of the wheel wells. Most of the snow etc comes up from under the truck wheels and the mud flaps keeps the snow build up down a lot to the step bars. The fender flares only catches snow etc from the side (less - wider tires) and when you turn your wheels. I find the coverage/protection is better (especially when you are going straight) with the splash flaps but I think the fender flares look great for style etc.

I hear you Pete. My tires ended up sticking out even at the top of the fender a little. I didn't like the look at all, nor knowing that they'd cover the sides and even the hood and roof with mud if I ever got into it. So, the flares were something I thought was necessary for my tire setup. I waffled on them even after I had bought them and had them painted and fitted. They hung in the garage and then onto a couple beds in our spare rooms for over a month until last weekend when my wife said 'get them out of the house...why don't you put them on?' I'm generally not a big modification guy, especially on body add-ons. I put them on for their function. But, I am satisfied with the look of the flares and their function. I was also perfectly satisfied with the look of the stock truck fenders.

 

I agree the GM molded guards are a nicer way to go if your tires don't stick out.

Maybe the best solution would be fender flare with extents with a built on (one piece - hard piece reinforeced or it could be added or remove easy - or soft piece - bends for 4X4 driving etc) mud flap. This way it would give full protection. Usually you don't want hard/molded mud flaps or step bars if you do a lot of 4X4 driving for clearance issues unless the vehicle is lifted.

I like them but can't or not recommended with the use of mud flaps. Bushwacher should consider ones (shorter or cut to order) to allow for GM's molded mud flaps.

I may be old school but for mud flaps I prefer just a simple flat style rather than the molded style, but you raise a valid point for makers of flares to have a style that accomadates the factory mud flaps.

 

 

In looking at the Chevrolet website, for '14 & '15 Silverado you can order fender flares, says to be the EGR brand.

 

Anyone have them on a new truck? Haven't seen any on any trucks at the local dealers.

Rough country makes a smaller flare. They look real nice, the best of all I've seen so far.

I assume they are talking about the factory thin plastic fender opening trim that the GMC trucks have but the Chevs don't.
