Truck is a 2004 silverado z71 1500 5.3 engine. The transmission position light slowly died over the past two week. Today, I came home from work and went to get back in the truck to go work out and there was nothing when turning the turn to the crank position. The battery is brand new. Connections are good. The transmission positiong light is completely gone now and I can't see anything when shifting into gear. Please help. Need truck to get to work.

When I turn the key to the forward position there is no click from the solenoid. The light goes out on the cluster and it's as if the whole cluster resets when I turn the key back to the on position.

Start with the basics. What is the voltage at the battery? I know you said it was a new battery. You know how many new batteries I have seen that didn't even make it thru the day? So start at the battery and work your way back checking the voltage.

Old timers trick, have someone in the cab try to start the vehicle, while under the vehicle (with a hammer), start tapping the starter with the hammer. If the vehicle turns over, you have a bad starter bendix.

Sounds like a bad ground to me. Check continuity between cable and post and cable to block. I've seen corrosion on the battery cable between the molded-in washer and bolt.

That fading dash light stuff kind of reeked of bad ground stuff to me also. But that's just an uneducated guess. I would follow the advice of these other guys.
