Gasoline smell in cabin and engine.

Well go into my truck today after using remote start and I smelled gas through the vents. The truck only has 1200 miles on it, and this is my SECOND 2014 Sierra 1500 since February. The other was a buy back for the vibration. I am officially done with GM. I would like one of their peeps reading these posts to contact me. I have been nothing but loyal for 30 years and I they have managed to piss me off to the point that I am willing to through it all away. I can't drive the truck this weekend and now have to wait until Monday to get it to the dealer and hope they can fix it. So disgusted with GM right now.

Hey Mikey, It appears that you and I have the same truck (2016 Sierra 1500 Denali 4x4, 5.3, Crew Cab)......I noticed the gas smell on Friday, July 1, 2016. Brought to dealer and they checked it out and could not find anything.

Note: The night before I did fill it up and remember that when it the gas pump handle valve "Clicked off" due to filled tank, I waited a few seconds and put a little more until it "clicked off" again. I wonder if this "overfill" scenario has caused the overfill canister to cause this gas smell?

I mentioned this to the service tech and he said, "possibly" and to wait a few days to see if this smell dissipates. It seems odd that others have had this problem too. Might be design flaw or defective part somewhere. How else could others have same issue? Maybe we can trace back to manufacturing location? Let me know. Thanks.

FYI don't overfill. It can damage the charcoal canister. Once the fill sensor on the nozzle clicks the pump off, throw the gas cap on and call it good.

It took three trips to the dealer before they find the problem. It was the #1 & 5 fuel injectors leaking. Two different dealerships in two different states said it was safe to drive. GM is lucky I wasn't on the side of the road roasting marshmallows. When they replace those fuel injectors everything has to be changed so it took a week for all the parts to come in. Was in the shop for a week. GM quality has went down hill for sure. I am as loyal as they come and not to happy. My current 2016 has been problem free. This was their third chance to get it right. I purchased 3 Sierras in 19 months

Hello everyone, I just bought a 2016 GMC Sierra SLT about 2 months ago and I have been smelling fuel in the cabin the same way as some of you guys have on here. I plan on taking it to the dealer tomorrow, however I wanted to get an idea of what I am getting into before I get the run around. I've never dealt with this before, but as this does not sound like a normal issue what should I expect from the dealer and what can I do to ensure this doesn't happen again? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Reymon,

I bought a combustible gas detector off Amazon, made a video of it and emailed to GMC dealer. GM factory rep happened to be there and saw video. They finally gave me the VIP treatment, used the video, bought my gas detector, used the info on the is forum, and fixed the problem.

It is a factory defect with injectors. I'll post pics of the repair and video.

Very interesting. I have 3000 miles on my 2016 Silverado 5.3 and now have the raw gas smell. It also takes twice as long to start when sitting idle for a while. Taking in on Friday along with the info you provided. Thanks for that. My service guys initial response was the direct injection takes longer to turn over the vehicle. I said it didn't until last week. He still wanted to argue. My sales guy was very cool so I will deal with him if there is any problem.
