If you have AMP Power Steps... check your bolts!

First, I love the AMP Research Power Steps. Absolutely the best mod I've done.

That being said, today as I stepped into the truck, I noticed that the step felt loose. I grabbed hold of the step with my hand and gave it a tug... It moved almost an inch! Very loose!

I checked both sides and all 4 bolts were loose. One was so loose that it could be easily turned with my finger...

This is the bolt that needs to be checked:

Tighten with a 13mm socket. You shouldn't need a wrench on the back side if it has a lock washer. I don't know the torque spec, but I cranked them pretty tight.

Something about this thread sounded familiar... so I did a search and found this post by chuckl1218.

Well, my Amp PowerSteps developed a clunk sound on the drivers side. The front bracket was very loose and after tightening it up, the clunk is gone. Decided to check the other brackets and found all bolts were loose, even the motor mount screws. Tightened all to AMP's torque specs and all is quiet and secure...happy now!

I guess my installer worked too fast after all! Word to the wise...always check your installers work!

Funny thing is that I responded that I was going to check mine the next day! I then promptly forgot all about it. A couple weeks later here we are. Thanks Chuck!

Luster, the AMP instructions say to torque the lower bolt 10 (which you show in the pic) and upper bolt 13 to 16 ft-lb (22N m), I found all of mine loose (upper and lower). I also tightened the cap screws on the motor assembly.

OK thanks... will do.

since it's here any ever open the door and not have the step go down? It's happened to me 4 or 5 times and always works right after when I close and open the door again.

No, haven't heard of that one. Mine's been on for about 5 months, no problems (except the loose bolts.)

Similar issue...First time last night. It opened when I got out and did not close after door closed. LEDs and inside lights stayed on. Good thing I watched it. Had to open driver door and let it cycle again.

Wonder if it is something to do with P-P getting hung up somehow.

I think all these kinds of glitches have to do with the fact that nothing is mechanical anymore. Everything is electronic and operates from the Control Module (vehicle computer).

The very first thing an IT help desk person will ask you... "Have you restarted your computer".

There were some little "one time glitches" in my '13 Silverado. Happened once, then never again.

(This truck too.)

Yup. By the way I also found the cap screws that hold the running board on the brackets were loose. Torqued to 10 ft-lbs per AMP.

Mine has mostly not come down. The only time it stayed down was when I went into a store. Came out and it was down. Through me off. Not a huge deal if it doesn't start to happen often. The staying down could be an issue if not noticed.

I'll check my bolts next time I have a chance and add red thread locker to any loose ones. I might have put it on during the install though as I use it constantly at work.

I had mine stutter once, it seemed to be confused and shy. Needless to say I was already half ejected at this point of realization so I tucked and rolled and somehow landed on my feet. There is something to be said about what happens to a man after a learned convenience fails him. Didn't help that I was a few beer deep and ready to dance at that point.

(Before anyone goes and calls Interpol to report a DUI, it was the passenger side that got me)

Good to know as I'm looking at them and was wondering about winter weather conditions such as snow, ice and slush.
