The dreaded HM290 !!!

I am working on a second gen HM290. I have it sitting in the back half upright . It does not seem to have a Neutral . When I shift into 5th or reverse it locks up withing a half a turn. When in neutral I have checked the positions of the coupling sleeves and they are in what's supposed to be the neutral position. Any Ideas fellas??? Maybe the position of being upright is causing binding in neutral?? Maybe the bearing in the back of the cluster needs to be flipped around?? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a book. I have a manual that tells you how it all works with some specifications that I got off Mnauals.com I guess I could put the front on and lay it down to check for neutral. Only want to go that way once though if possible. It would not go into or stay in 4th gear. I replaced the related parts, syncro, sleeve, input shaft and shift yoke.. Prettty sure I fixed the problem there. I can see where the cone syncros could drag sitting verticle. And by the time you get gear ratios involved .... This has been an interesting project with out a manual for sure. Especially finding bits and pieces of info online for disassembly,,
