I'm considering buying a 01 sierra 1500 ext cab it's got 177k miles on it. Only thing it needs is a windshield. Appears to have a plow mount on it already. I am just looking for a truck to last me till I can get a better kne next year. What do you guys think of it? The only other thing is the whole entire truck is plasti dipped from the previous owner

1) I'd be afraid to know what is under all the PlastiDip, besides the fact it looks like primer right now.

2) Missing a trim piece for the rear door on the driver's side..why?

3) I would never buy a half ton that was used for plowing. That work is more reserved for three quarter tons in my opinion.

4) At 180k, if the trans hasn't been rebuilt, its on borrowed time. Especially if its been on plow duty.

Bottom line, I would skip because that truck looks beat. There's a lot of clean, low mileage trucks out there and prices have started to come down recently. Keep your eye out for one of those and get one you can be proud of.

That's the look of the plasti dip.. And the plow and miles doesent consern me cuz I won't be using it a lot and in really just buying it for a beater u till springtime. The missing Trim piece I have no idea

The reason I'm getting a beater is untill I save up for a 2500 in spring

Basically I'm not looking for a perfect truck, I'm looking for a truck that I will work on and make better. I found a 2500 that needs some work (see pics) but high miles 247k

Trim doesn't come on rear doors ,

Low ball him as the truck is all used up lol

Trim does.the 2500 I posted a pic of has it but the 1500 doesn't. The guy said he assumes it was plowed with but doesent know so that raises consern with then1500 the 2500 besides rust and high miles looks good

For 1500, the price seems right to me

That's what I think. 1500$ plus a new windshield and I'll have a good first truck.

Plus when I do need to upgrade to a better truck I'll have more money

I would buy the 1500 for about $1500 an no more if it has a 5.3. That thing looks like a money pit waiting to fall open.

Tell me how does tbe 1500 look like a money pit?

My motto is, it doesn't need to look pretty as long as it drives and stops. I'd buy it. What motor does it have?

I'm not even sure I'll have to ask

He is in a hurry to sell. The new ad he posted said he is moving wed so before then it's 1700 (was 2000) but emailed me back saying I could have it for 1500 before wendsay I'll Atleast take a look at it. Seems decent for a first truck though

The 1500 5.3 is a solid truck.

Check the air conditioner belts/pulley, e brake cable and make sure the transmission shifts good.

Other than that you are golden!
