Passenger Door Rattle

Just as FYI a lot of driver door rattle sounds is actually the window control switches. Lightly touch them and the driver door rattle is usually gone. It is the buttons themselves vibrating against the channel they are in. That is at least my trucks issue. I'm planning on disassembling the controls and felt taping each side of the channel at the switches.

When you do disassemble them would you be able to do a DIY with pictures so we could give it a shot if the above fix does not work?

You mean if the fix "does" work. :) Yes I can probably do that.

I hope it does, I am just chicken to go and start disassembling my interior :) .

After two days of simply inserting a folded raffle ticket in the door panel I still am getting some rattle but only on the worse section of road I drive that would cause a rattle. I have noticed though that the rattle had been reduce by 50% or more in sound volume and the stretches of road traveled that would cause the rattle sound had been eliminated by more than 50%. So I believe I am on the right track, maybe a thinker piece of paper (or folded more times) and put in more spots along the plastic trim might sure up the play reducing or eliminating rattle completely.

I will continue to experiment with the paper and provide updates.

Each persons rattle if coming from the same spot as mine will vary in severity so a single piece of paper might work for some and multiple pieces along the plastic might be needed for others.

rxnotec,

Mine just started doing this the other day over a cobblestone road, and has progressively gotten worse and now does it almost any bump I hit. Did you have any luck with the switches or take them apart yet? I am positive mine is coming from the switches. Its driving me nuts! Thanks in advance for any help!

Just turn the stereo up. Oh... wait ... It doesn't work right either. Nevermind.

I haven't had a chance yet. Been a busy few weeks. Apologies on the delays. I should be able to look into it this week. Finally have some time off.

I found the source of mine! It's that little plastic cap in the area where you would put your had to open the door (not sure what it's called). I tried insulated double stick tape and it seems to take care of it. Pics below: note the 4 pieces of tape didn't work since they were not at contact points but the 2 little pieces in the corner did the trick!

This did not work

Hope this helps any of you that might have the same rattle!

I would suggest all try this first as it is less invasive. I have some free time today and tomorrow to do some digging into the vibrations.

I did this and it took care of a light rattle. My biggest rattle still is coming from the glove box area. I have added sticky back insulation everywhere I can think of and still have the freakin rattle. I can remove the lower glove box and it goes away. I can remove the upper glove box leaving the lower one in place and it goes away but when both are installed the rattle reapears!

I have had it to 2 dealerships several times for this rattle but they cannot seam to locate it. It will go away after 20 to 30 minutes of driving so it has to have something to do with contraction and expansion of the plastic in that area. Anyone else experiencing this??

I found a major rattle vibration!!! So the trim plastic cover over the side (#1 in the photo) I reached over and pressed that down a little harder and instantly the rattle was gone on mine. I added some double sided foam tape to settle it down and so far so good. I need to get some felt tape to quiet the sunglasses holder next but can't find that tape anywhere.post-133203-0-09094400-1414420046.jpg

Thanks bud , and your right a couple of knocks on the piece and you can hear that noise. when you do go over man holes or cobble stone it's louder and louder. I only have velcroe but will try the felt and report back. Thanks bro. This was helpful , little stuff drive me nuts and I hate having to prove the issue to the dealer with a drive etc..
