Rear clunk

It didn't do this until recently and it is getting worse. Dealer said they all do that so I checked and they do but not as bad as mine. I can try to turn the drive shaft with my hands left and right and it moves on the rear about an inch each way and clunks. Is this normal? I am afraid the rear axle is going to come off or lock up.

Can I be of assistance, EXSlider400? I understand that you are experiencing an issue where you are hearing clunking in the rear. You mentioned that you have been to the dealership. Would you consider going to another dealership for a second opinion? Please private message me to discuss this further.

The dealer seems like they want to be helpful and are very nice. I rather stay with them..but if i need to take it to another dealer u will.

I have dealt with bad dealers in the past but these guys are genuinely good people.

1" left right movement at the pinion output? There is roughly .006-.012 clearance in the ring and pinion gears, very little in the splined axles, and not very much at all in the spider gears or posi (locker). 1" seems way too much slop. The rear differential cover should come off for inspection.

Hm,, take to a trans shop and have them check the backlash and dial it in

no. the truck is under warranty. dealer needs to fix this.

1" of play on the driveshaft at the slip yoke seems like too much

take to another dealer, if they no issue then theres no issues. Just because we are in 2014 and machines should be flawless, at the end of the day they are still machines and will have their flaws. Also some people awareness of noises and what not are more than others.

I sent a PM to the GM Rep.

Noise was not there till around 20k.

My 07 has 150k and no wiggle/movement in drive shaft...but 07 is 2wd. ...is being a 4x4 a factor?

I can shake the New Truck side to side by pushing on the rear bumper and it makes the clunk but my 07 does not. Old truck has rear drum and new is disk....factors?

Anyone else has a clunk if shook or on any uneven terrain? I Checked all leafspring, Shackles, and shock bolts.

It did not make noise....and now it does. That is what worries me.
