5.3L Idle Vibration/Rough Idle Surge

^ Yep I understood about the DI but going to see what they get on non-DIs as to results. I now use the BG 44k which is a step up over the Techron concentrate. I have had the baffle do over by GM and the Ring cleaner. Still uses oil but a little less than pre-TB fix. Thus the CC. Will check to see if they have any luck on non-DIs and just what it would do for non-DIs.

I don't think the catch can will fix the oil consumption issue. The consumption issue on the 07-10 trucks was related to the active fuel management system. The catch can will just keep your oil consuming engine a little cleaner. You need to disable AFM if you want to try to stop the consumption.

I haven't had any oil consumption issues in my near 13k miles. But then again. I've had AFM turned off by either a Range module, and now by Blackbear for probably 4k to 5k of those miles. But in the first several thousand before I started tinkering, never noticed any oil usage.

No AFM is not the whole solution. No AFM on mine and burned 1 1/2 to 2 qts per 5,000 miles. Baffles, valve cover and ring cleaner helped. I Did not want the new pistons/rings for now. Now no AFM on the 07-11s from the get go may have stopped the oil consumption. But we will never know. But a CC from the get go would have helped.

The catch can on mine is just to keep the oil out of the rings. RX thinks the rings will eventually clean over time with the CC in place. . That is the oil burn issue. Poor PCV design and AFM Sucks oil and when rings clog it burns oil etc. And the CC for the DIs should help keep the intake valves and rings clean.

I have a 2014 LTZ with the 6.2 Liter and the 3.73 gears. I have the whistle noise and the rough idle in the morning. I have about 14K on the truck and last week the check engine light came on. I called on star and they ran a diagnostic check. I told them that it has taking a few extra cranks to start in the am, there is black smoke at a cold start up, and a rough idle in the morning. The rocket scientist came back and staring telling me about tire pressure and all the things that I do not care about. I asked her what codes were causing the check engine light to come on and her response was that I had a rough idle at start up. She said I have a week to bring it in.

My theory is that the DI fuel injectors are bleeding down. They flood the cylinders a bit which causes the black smoke and the rough idle. Once the truck is at operating temp, she runs like a champ. I just do not have the time to bring it in. My last truck had 100K on her, and I never had to bring it back to the dealer, not once. Just Oil changes in my driveway.

I'm noticing a rough idle start to develop in my truck now. My 2007 did it at higher mileage, sometimes shaking the entire truck, but it wasn't a problem this early on. On this 2014, it seems when I'm at a stop or in park at random times, the truck will shake slightly every now and then. I'm wondering if it's the effects of buildup in the engine from the DI engine starting to show symptoms? Hopefully I can get my catch can installed this weekend and sometime soon do a BG induction service. I may run some Techron through my next tank of gas just to make sure the fuel delivery system is fine and clear.

Yeah, the Techron didn't seem to help for me and I ran quite a bit of it through. I think you are right with the buildup and catch can. I will be installing a catch can here in the next few months to try and mitigate some of this.

Yeah my catch can was supposed to arrive yesterday but didn't show up. Hopefully the USPS delivers it today so I can install it tomorrow.

I got a new tune from Blackbear that raises the idle RPM to 650 rpms instead of the stock 500 rpms. I havent had a chance to load it yet because I have been out the past three weeks on business trips. But I plan on getting it loaded this week, I will report back to see if the increased idle rpm mitigates idle vibrations.

The reason I had Blackbear do this for me is I noticed that on cold starts with colder exterior temps, the truck idles around 650-700 while warming up and its extremely smooth. No vibes at all.

So i talked with Justin and asked him if there is any downfall of raising the idle rpm and he said nope. I will repot back after I get the tune loaded up.

can somebody please post the link that has the TSB info for the engine shim procedure ? my truck is vibrating just sitting in the driveway idling . I am so sick of this crap! I have searched high and low and cant find the tsb code and my dealer is acting like they cant find anything like usual .

If you increase the throttle does the vibration go away or get worse? If it goes away, wouldn't that rule out the shims which treat an un-balanced engine?

mine vibrates all the time while going down the road and sitting in the driveway. but it does get worse the faster I drive

My rough idle was slightly worse today. I wonder if the winter fuel blends are making it worse?

The higher idle rpm seemed to help smooth things out a bit. Blackbear made the idle around 530-550 rpm. I guess I should have checked on the autocal after i uploaded. But it is definitely better. No more surging either. You can tell the truck is running, but its not nearly as bad.
