Adding steering wheel controls but not on the steering wheel 06 silver

My goal is to add the controls that are typically on the steering wheel but put them somewhere else like maybe the door where the window switches are. So where are the wires for these buttons or is it static signals like the acc power for the radio? I had planned on getting some small buttons and drilling holes for them where ever I put them, not using the big plastic buttons. Like put the radio controls on the door and the instrument controls on the dash somewhere. Does anyone know where these wires are before the steering wheel and if it's possible??

I'm not sure why you're trying to do this, but you're gonna have a LOT of wires running into your steering column.

You'd have to intercept them at the dash and run them on around and down into the kick panel, then through the door grommet, which already has a ton of switches on it. I recommend disconnecting the battery or removing the airbag or something before you mess around with that. You don't want it goin off in your face while you're working.

Possible sure, if you know your wire colors. But it's gonna be a massive PITA.

Most likely they come into the column from the bottom. I'd recommend investing in service manuals for your truck, it'd tell you every wire color and what they do, that'd make this job a lot easier for ya.

I am not sure how current steering wheel radio controls work. That said,in the past (could have changed) 12 volts went to the buttons and each had a different resistance. Only one wire went to the radio. The different resistances changed the applied voltage to the radio and it did the proper function for the voltage applied.

That's another thing I was thinking about... what is the black plug that goes to the radio? I know the big silver one has all the power and speakers but looking at videos, I see they have the plug and the controls on the wheel. I don't have either so I wonder if that's the controls plug there
