I wonder if the premium paints have any difference? Like the Diamond Tri-Coat or the new Forrest Green or Ocean Blue ($500 each for either of these...)

Doubt as all the manufactures are using the water based crap. The premium they are charging is due to the fact that it has metallic in it or they offering them in a few trims and the fact they dont want to open those colors up to full production thus driving up the cost.

My 2010 camaro had black paint, and GM in the inifinte wisdom used a white or light colored primer for this color. Combined with it being one the first models with the eco friendly paint.

I got the paint protection (that so called Teflon stuff) from dealer when I bought my truck. Most say a waste of money. Well, whatever it is, it's freekin' awesome stuff. Just by washing the truck it always looks better than brand new, and as for bird crap, it effortlessly wipes right off. Doesn't stick. Nothing can get down into the paint.

Only problem I have is almost every time I wash it, I find a new chip somewhere!

I got a coating from the dealer as well, they did interior and exterior. This stuff is amazing, pretty much everything comes off with the hose.

I don't know what birds eat but thier crap is like acid. My last yukon I had, had the same thing happen to it on the roof as well.

I always got the special teflon coating done on the last five vehicles. It works well. No waxing required and protects well against bird crap. However, does nothing to protect against scratches.

My 2015 is on order (should have been assembled this past week). I was wondering if there was anything better to protect the truck, especially from scratches. I'm getting the sonoma red.

Did some research and came across these two products. Both require professional installation and will run me about $1200.

The CQuartz FINEST is the better of the two. It has much better scratch protection and is much thicker (2 mils). There are several videos on youtube of guys using scotchbrite to try and scratch it but still looks like glass.

I'm on the fence with these. The teflon coating I used to get is around $500. I know one of these products is much better but that's a lot of cash. I'm always thinking about resale value. Do you think it will be worth it after 3 to 5 years?

IMHO,it's probably not worth the extra cost over the "bargain" 500 dollar stuff from the dealer. I've watched different vids. I've probably washed my truck about 30 times since getting it this past March, I personally don't see any difference in shine, reaction to water, swirl resistance, etc.

As for scratch resistance, I find that hard to believe. If so, so be it, but nothing is going to protect your paint from something propelled off the vehicles tire in front of you, probably traveling about 100 mph.

That's my problem. I don't clean my vehicles enough. I'm not willing to take the time to do so. I'm too busy working or enjoying time with my family. The thought of a quick rinse and blow dry is appealing to me.
