100K finally...

This is my first vehicle I've had to 100k miles. I know for maintenance; do all fluids and tune up (all OEM). But what about the engine and tranny? Should I consider opening up the covers to take a look? It sounds fine and drives great still, just like to catch things before it happens.

 

And is a shift kit worth throwing in?

If they're leaking, I'd consider fixing them.

I wouldn't go with a shift kit...they seem to put more stress on the transmission than needed. What kind of hauling do you do that you are considering one? What engine do you have?

6.0 gasser, and there is nothing leaking at all. I pull 12' trailer full of tools (contractor) and sometimes a full load of debris in the bed at same time. I've had 1500lbs of crap in back with the trailer and racks loaded with ladders and materials. It gets heavy sometimes, but for the most part its just ladders up top and trailer.

 

I dont want to do anything unecessary, I just like to mod the necessities like MPG, and power.

you'll be fine. no need to open the engine up. If you want to you can do an oil analysis and that will give you an idea on how things are doing inside the engine. Somewhat.

I get an oil analysis done every oil change. Other than changing all the fluids, hoses, belts that's about all I can think of.

Pretty much covered above. All fluids which include power steering and coolant and filters that can be replaced, spark plugs and belts. Not much else to do.
