Rear leaf springs noise

I had a Hellwig rear sway bar on while the noise was coming from the leaf springs. The sway bar rusted out in about 18 months so I replaced it with blue Sumo Springs and now the leaf spring noise is gone too. I know it was the leaf springs because even with the sway bar on, the noise would go away for a while if I sprayed them with WD-40.

I'm not doing that kind of work on a product that GM supposedly warranties. I'd do it on a 95 F150.

I had a squeak over bumps and clunk when backing over driveway curb. I have BDS leaf springs and it turned out to be the leaf spring clamps rubbing the side of the leaf pack. I used some thin rubber sheeting to put in between the spring clamp and leaf pack.

I'd absolutely do something like that with a 95 F150. I like working on my own vehicles... but not when they're under warranty.

I found someone here in Georgia that got their 2016 Silverado Repurchased because of the spring issue. GM has their last chance for mine. They're going to replace them.... with the springs that they know have issues...................... smh

GM has received my final repair notice and will be scheduling their final attempt for some time next week.

My final repair is happening now. They're replacing the springs... with the springs that are identified with having the problem.

They've had the springs special ordered for me for a few weeks now. Apparently they didn't get the memo that GM wanted my U bolts changed too so they have to keep it another day.

This was their last attempt. Lemon coming soon. If this was an older truck I would put some different rubber pads between the leaves.

Good luck on the leaf spring replacements guys and gals. I gave up on GM making it 'right' or even coming close. Had another respectable GM dealer that pulled me aside off record and fixed it via an unapproved method not listed in GM's service bulletins with another part. The leaf spring problems have not returned since the non-official/approved repair. Now have over 25,000 miles now on this repair without additional issues.

I have had however all kinds of other non-related problems have begun since then.

1) Water pump/pulley noises

2) dash rattles/squeeks/loose bolts

3) electronic querks - radio goes to black screen, static through speakers when opening the drivers door.

4) Three sets of leaf springs. Two of the sets were installed with less than 30,000 on the odometer. First set somewhere around 10-15,000.

5) V4/V8 clunky drivetrain shifts- like getting kicked or bucked by a horse. Not in a good way. Getting worse over time.

All of these on a truck that is driven 99% of the time as a commuter vehicle, highway paved roads, 45,000 miles total on the odometer. other 1% is used to haul the occasional sheet of plywood, or drywall, and not anywhere near even 1/2 load capacity.

Had three other makes of trucks over the years, and NONE of them had issues until after 80,000 miles+. Also never had issues anywhere close to this with another dealership. Go in for oil changes and that was about it.

Really sad what Chevrolet has become and says is acceptable or 'normal'. Regional service rep from Detroit actually made the issue worse, and had unacceptable customer service skills to handle the situation on the leaf spring issues. GM dealer extended the warranty slightly but that was about it. Says that's their trucks, buy a sedan next time. Was told in a closed door meeting to just trade it in or turn the radio up louder. Gave me a below blue book value trade in price. Most likely since they knew it had issues. Walked out and will never return to that GM dealership. Top 2 in St. Louis's volume/profitable dealerships. Went down to the Ford dealer who offered $8,000 more for a Kelly Blue book value price. Kinda sad a Ford dealer would offer more for a trade in than a Certified Chevrolet dealership. Owner loyalty and appreciation they tout was disproved by that whole experience.

Missouri Lemon Laws are of little help and in the dealers favor. GM knows this and has lobbied for this. Below or at blue book is essentially what to expect on a vehicle buyback in that state. So if you drive off the lot, and have an issue, you loose all the depreciation immediately, even if it is ruled as a lemon.

The rubber piece idea is something I've used in the past.

If you can't get it solved any other way, it might be something to consider.

I've used pieces of inner tube which eventually work their way out but last much longer than grease or oils.

Dang that sucks about Missouri. I think Georgia will be easier. GM had gotten pretty snappy with the situation once I opened the claim with the BBB. The BBB closed the claim once we both agreed that I HAD to give them a final repair notice. They haven't re-opened it yet nor has GM called me back since I left them a message last week.

That's sucks man. I'm going through something similar with my 2016 Silverado CC Z71. Just under 15,000 miles and have had the water pump replaced, rear passenger window defective, currently looking at leaf springs for clunking noise and now they are replacing my whole steering column because my steering wheel was loose and the dealer fix of bearings didn't work so GM Engineering said replace the whole thing. Sucks to have all these issues on a newer truck. I might have to contact the GM rep out here.

Just got my truck back from the dealer and they said there is a service bulletin for this issue and they just retorque the leafspring bolts. Service advisor had no clue about the bulletin but the mechanic did.
