Rear leaf springs noise

That's the standard line nowadays, "functioning as designed". A throwaway line to get you off the lot. My DIC goes almost completely blank in bright sunlight gradually after about 15 minutes of driving, had it in twice for it and got the same "functioning as designed" line. They must think we're idiots.

Enroberts,

I am right here with you, I have the exact same issue as i mentioned earlier. Document everything. The last car manufacturer that gave me the working as designed B.S ended up buying the vehicle back with 25000 km on it. This was through Camvap (canadian only unfortunately) but I will gladly do this again. GM reps, surely you can do more then simply talking to worthless service advisors? How is GM going to fix issues if the dealerships wont properly represent the customer and complaints?!?! I traded in a Honda Ridgeline with 100K on it that had zero warranty issues. Give me a reason to think I didn't make a mistake....

GM Customer Service just sent me this PM:

"I was able to speak to Kim Weis again on your behalf and I was also able to reach out to our internal resources. They have assured me that your truck is running normal and at this point, have exhausted all of their options. Again, we are very sorry for any ongoing frustration but your truck is operating as designed.

Kindest Regards,

Blair E.

BS GM...BS. If my truck was "designed" to make that sound you need to fire all your truck engineers. If my truck was "designed" to make that sound, what "design changes" occurred in the 2015 models because I can't fine ONE truck that makes that sound in the 2015 lineup. I'm not going away GM. I'll be your worst nightmare. I WILL get this fixed and my efforts will help everyone in this thread and others online with the exact same issue. You're customer service is pathetic. I counted today...I've owned 14 GM vehicles. NOT ONE of those vehicles EVER needed warranty work. I LOVE GM products but this experience has been terrible. Expect a call from my lawyer soon.

Great to know. Here's a thread that someone mentions putting a large hose clamp on their springs to limit the noise. REALLY GM? A HOSE CLAMP IS REQUIRED? I don't think so. For what it's worth, I tried the shackle clamps mentioned in this thread. They helped a little but the noise was still present when driving and moving the truck. It was worth the $16 to test it though. This thread has 6 PAGES of people talking about this exact issue...

Also, note someone in this thread saying they heard the sound and GM replaced their transmission and more before the owner of that truck over torqued the nuts on the axle mounts to limit his noise output.

They keep coming...

this is a GREAT thread. Lots of people with the same issue. I just wish GM would let my dealer replace the springs and shocks like SO MANY in this one have had done. Their noises from the rear are gone now...

So for my own information, the only thing i can do do rid myself of the squeak is to lube and re-lube before i take my truck in for its' next service etc.. correct?

Also, does anyone else think that my leaf springs are a hair outta whack? (use the wrench as a make shift level).

They're in for a treat with me.

Tread carefully, or you will end up like me with dealerships declining to touch your vehicle for anything... ;-)

My right one is like that. Or was until I clamped them down to get rid of the clicking and thuds. My left one was aligned correctly. Clamping solved my problems to my liking. Too bad the manufacturer couldn't.

Both of mine are marked with green tape, which I understand is meant to call out "short" springs. Whatever the color, they are both supposed to be the same color.

I've quit fighting for replacement springs since dealerships have declined to touch the vehicle based on my complaints and GM threw up its hands and told me I was on my own. At which point I told the rep that I was through with him as well. I am sure he marked my case closed with something that looks positive for him. That CTS my wife and I were thinking about for her, yeah, not going to happen for sure now. There will be no more GM vehicles in my driveway after this Denali.

Well i have yet to take my truck in for this issue... so maybe I'll try bringing them some Starbucks or something to kick things off in the right direction lol. Until then I'm just going to lube away.

UPDATE: I got a phone call from the office of GM's CEO. I explained the issues we all have, shared this board and info, and she says she will call me back in two days. I have a phone number and extension. One step at a time.

UPDATE: GM executive office spoke with the dealer and watched my youtube videos (also read this forum I believe). The dealer told GM that they couldn't hear the noise. OF COURSE THEY DIDNT HEAR THE NOISE GM. YOU TOLD THEM TO APPLY A TEMPORARY FIX! This is EXACTLY what I told you was the issue at hand and my reason for calling you in the first place. Next steps, exactly what my dealer and I agreed to...I will drive the truck to wear the grease off the springs and head BACK to the dealer for the FOURTH time to have them listen as I drive BEFORE re-greasing the springs again. GM also tells me that the noise is NOT the springs and replacing them will NOT solve the issue. I asked again if my youtube videos were watched and she said yes, she did see them but the GM engineers who "made my truck" said replacing the springs would not make the noise go away. I asked to speak with one of those engineers but was told they are "not customer facing employees." Ok fine. I will return to the dealer in ~ one month's time to let them hear the noise. I will also be contacting my attorney today to begin conversations about approaching GM with failure to carry out warranty repairs appropriately or in a timely manor under the The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. They will not contact GM until my next visit but GM should be aware (as they're now watching this thread) that these conversations have begun.
