Borla XR-1

Hello all!

So has anyone replaced their muffler with a Borla XR-1, deleted flapper, and kept the resonator? I'm pretty sure this is the route I'm going. I'm planning to get the Sportsman Oval 16'' x 4-1/2'' x 7.88'', or maybe the round 15"x5", I think the oval will be a bit less loud. Our trucks have 3-1/2" piping correct? My reasoning is as follows:

Borla XR-1: I have the multicore race, round muffler on my T/A and it sounds great. Longtubes, no cats, 3 inches front to back with only the XR-1. It sounds loud when I get on it but cruising has no drone and has a nice rumble to it. I found the XR-1 on YouTube in a couple older 5.3 and it sounds good too. One 2014 also but its dumped and another is on a 6.2.

Deleting flapper: Trying to evade future issue that I've been reading about.

Keeping the resonator: From what I've read, this helps in keeping the chopper away. I would absolutely hate if I got that noise and my wife would probably kill me too. Also I know this will keep it kind of quiet and that's what I'm looking for also.

What do you guys think? Anybody with first experience? Thanks in advance! I'll report back with sound vids also.

I've got the 12" oval in place of the stock muffler and flapper, kept the resonator.

I really like the sound, I'm considering removing the third cat though because I would like it a tad louder. I can hear it start from inside the house but it idles extremely quite.

As far as v4 drone, can't hear it at all except when it's struggling to stay in v4, and even then I barely notice it unless the radio is off.

I have been thinking about this too. I've run the XR-1 on a couple of other vehicles and was pleased.

If you do it would you post a sound clip? I haven't found a 2014 with it done yet.

I will also be using a Borla XR-1 part #40944. I am making my own cat back with 3" stainless. So far I have it all tack welded together just need my buddy to TIG it. With it mocked up on the truck at idle and revving it, it sounded sweet!
