Recommend Tires for wet roads?

I have 2012 1500 4x2 with the 20" stock rima.

Came with Eagle LS2 tires which are mediocre in all areas. Tread life is getting short.

Any ideas on a good City/Hoghway tire with decent tread wear? I do close to NO off roading, so mud traction isn't necessary. Also- I live in Florida, snow traction is completely unnecessary also!

Basically looking for a good wet traction tire with good tread life. I know there are many options-- many good options, but was curious if anyone here had experience with some good tires?

Another Michelin suggestion, but go with either the Latitude Tours or MS2's. Price is not on the low side but you will never be disappointed on road whether its dry or wet. And for light off roading from time to time they are more than enough.

 

My latitude tours are nearing 40k miles and I don't have single complaint. They are on pavement 98% of the time but have handled satisfactorily in snow/ice and mud.

Keeping 20's i love my Goodyear Eagle GT's. I do some driving on hard packed dort because of where my house is and a bit of gravel going to the back of my property. But on road wet traction is great. It stays planted. I have to try to get them to break free. I had M+S rated Cooper Discoverer HT Plus in the stock 275/55R20 prior and loved them as well. Tough to compare side to side for rain since it rarely rains here. I think the cooper handled the rain a bit better, but will not hesitate to buy either tore again if i were to keep this size. Most on here will tell you a different size or an all terrain tire, but i am like you and never drive off road and want a comfortable street tire that handles well. Look into the Eagle GT and Discoverer HT Plus.

 

I lived in Florida also but didnt have my 20's when i lived in Fort Walton Beach. The stock Goodyears on the stock 16's were outright dangerous in the rain there.

Id be getting nitto 420's if I had a 2wd truck and lived in Florida

From what i have seen, know quite a few people with them on SS' s, they are a lot better on dry. Florida sucks in rain. Most the roads have sea shells crushed into them and that makes them a lot slicker.

I have read up and more or less decided on those Michelin LTX A/T2 tires

Great reviews, decent price (higher range -- but I have never been one to skimp on quality tires as my entire family drives in this vehicle), nice looking to boot.

Will try and post pics when I get them on- truck is bone stock so probably won't look too exciting, but none the less!

Enjoy the great tires! I have the most expensive Michelins on my grand marquis and they are great!

You can't go wrong with that choice but I think that the MS2 night better serve your needs if you hardly ever go off road, and especially if you have a 20" wheel.

I've got a 2500 but I have no problems with traction on my Michelin M/S (not the second gen). Well no problems when I keep my right foot reasonable. 30k on them so far and tread is still good. I'm hoping I'll get another 20-30k out of them. Still blows my mind how many idiots still can't drive in the rain even though it rains daily for probably 8 or 9 months out of the year here. If you don't go off road you'll be fine with them, I get stuck but my truck is such a fatty and the dummy behind the wheel doesn't always do smart things lol

My firestone destination 265's i have on only lasted me 15K miles. What a joke they are dry rotting and chunking off. No off-roading whatsoever but they do Handle well on the dry highway

I have Michelin LTX M/S on my 08 and have had great luck with them in poor conditions. They're also not too bad in the snow up here either.

The Michelin LTX are a great choice in AT or MS for you... Had a set of MS on a 2wd 3/4 ton, took it to the boat ramp and it climbed back up with no slip, the guy next to me had to use 4wd to get up with his mud tires!

 

I will add though, the MS are useless in mud, and the AT do fairly well. Even if you don't plan on getting muddy, the peace of mind is nice.

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
