Curt Xtra duty class v hitch

I have a buddy who got this hitch from a employer and offered it to me for a steal. I have the max tow already but this hitch is a significant hitch upgrade. I tow my 5100# TT all summer with a equalizer wd hitch and usually do one 2 week long trip out west. Before anyone comments on it not increasing my tow ratings I'm well aware of that. Just looking at it from a pure structural view. Any thoughts...worth it???

Nice offer, but zero benefit for a 5100 lb trailer. Keep your GM truck all GM.

You really don't gain anything because your truck can only tow so much and the hitch is more than up to the task. Doesn't matter if you tow every single day, your factory hitch is still able to do the job. It doesn't matter if the hitch can tow 20,000 lbs (example), if the truck can only tow 12,000 then you're not gaining anything. Plus the trailer only being 5,000 lbs my truck with the 3.08 gears would have no problem doing that, let alone your 6.2 with max trailer package.

There is nothing wrong with upgrading your hitch with the Curt, I to have the 6.2 max package and when you remove the GM hitch you will feel the lightness in its weight compared to the Curt which I enlisted my son to help me hold up during mounting. Its a solid hitch period wont hurt using it.

The only loss might be the protection you would have if your hitch failed.

That was my original thought. Not looking for the increase in capacity but the upgrade couldn't hurt. I'm talking like 100 bucks for the hitch and 30 minutes of my time.

It's okay, it happens. I have the Curt Class IV on my truck. 10k lb weight. It's a really solid hitch.

Buy it, sell on Craigslist. Like others have said, no real benefit beyond possibly peace of mind. But it's not like the factory is a bad piece. Works perfectly well. Plus, the added weight day in, day out will only eat into the pocketbook via the gas pump for no reason.

You really aren't getting anything in terms of utility. The extra margin is already high with your current trailer. But it's your $100.

No way! A friend offers a deal, you don't buy it and sell it for a profit. If you want to keep your friends, you never profit from them going the extra mile to help you. He could sell it at a profit if that was the end goal. Use it or decline. That's the only two choices.

I would not do it to my friend either. He works for a landscape business and the company bought the hitch for a chevy 2500 to tow bobcats/dump trailers. The owner folded the company and now they are just liquidating stuff, hitches, plows etc.

My bad, my bad. I took it that the COMPANY had it for sale at this price, not that he was getting from the bud. I wouldn't do that. Please disregard.
