I had this one for awhile

Frame was chrome and had GMC on top and SIERRA on the bottom. Nice frame. But I have since upgraded to something a bit more functional and a bit more expensive lol

The VLED License plate frame with built in reverse lights

In the last picture that parking lot is dark with very little ambient light. Only light that you can see in that picture is the LPF. The side of the truck is illuminated by the white lights from the new tow mirrors but with how much light the LPF puts out, the tow mirror lights are negligible.

What's the deal on Texas I heard rumors some say it's illegal others say it isn't ???

Sec. 504.945

(a) A person commits an offense if the person attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a license plate that:

(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker, decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers of the license plate number or the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered;

the law states that it is illegal IF the readability is hindered. The VLED LPF does not hinder the visibility of anything but the topmost edge of the plate itself. You can see from my pictures that there is no issue whatsoever reading the plate. The lights are not on all the time unless you wire them that way. These lights are designed to be wired into the reverse light circuit so that they are only on when in reverse. That way they are just sleek and more or less hidden when driving but when you go in reverse, you'll know they exist!

Also I know I remember being told by several state troopers when I went to driving school, safety supersedes the law. i.e. if one is driving next to an 18-wheeler then you can speed by the wheeler as being on the side of one can be deemed "unsafe" because of the large blindspot that 18-wheelers can have. Also have been told that if it is night and you are out on the road and its safe to do so, one can run a red light and make the argument that you did not feel comfortable sitting at the light since no one else was around.

One could get the LPF and make the argument that they need more light when in reverse.

I think we can all agree that the law can be stupid and sometimes easily gotten around.

okay so my rant is over lol

:rant:

I just find the laws to be pointless sometimes as even many law enforcement officers don't always take it seriously.

SO to summarize all this rant. I think you would be fine getting one of these in Texas and I would be absolutely amazed if you ever were given any trouble for having it, unless you have it on all the time when driving. But if you wire it to your cargo lights or your reverse lights, then I can't foresee any issues with the law

EDIT: I forgot to mention that here in Louisiana we have the same law (no illuminated devices on the plate that would obstruct the view). I have had this thing on my truck since around October or November and I haven't had a single issue with the law

I agree 100% but here in south Texas the law is hardly on our side there's always some jackass waiting to give an excuse and a ticket to stop last time they stop my father just his black sierra had too much dirt so they had reason to believe he might have been near the border (drug suspicious) .
