We can agree to disagree on the intake benefit, but what you just wrote up there is hilariously wrong. A cold air intake and intercooler are completely different components.

How is my Statement Completely Wrong? The intent of an intercooler and a CAI both is to provide a cooler air into the intake. the only difference is that a Turbo System is forced. Hence the acronym FI (Forced Induction) . The Turbo pulls hot compressed air and forces the air into the intercooler to be cooled and then forces the air into the intake. Putting a CAI on a Turbo vehicle instead of a intercooler may increase or cause the turbo to spool Earlier but will end up ineffective due to the hotter the air is going into the intake as well as the air not being forced into the intake . (ever hear of Heat Soak??) Colder Forced Air and hotter spark = more combustion. (At least until you run out of fuel - so hopefully you upgrade your fuel system to match then have it Tuned to perform at its best) you can post some pics from a website and regurgitate all the info you read that you want but don't come to crap on my thread cause you obviously don't know how to do much else but troll.

AIRAID does dyno tests of all their kits and posts it online. The below link will take you to the dyno tests for their 200-285 CAI kit, which covers the 2014-15 5.3L engines.

I've always been an AIRAID fan, and in my old 2001 Sierra 2500HD with the 6.0L, I gained about 3 mpg thanks to the AIRAID and a simple BullyDog GT tuner.

I would be curious though if people have used/seen benefits from a new mass air flow sensor after installing a CAI, like JET Performance's Power-Flow Mass Air Sensor which is supposedly designed to better perform with a CAI than the stock (according to JET at least).

I saw these and was very interested in the Air Raid MXP kit. I just wanted to do my Due Diligence to find the best bang for the Buck. Thanks for the Link Detroit Rebel!

The two are not interchangeable, they are independent components (which you accurately stated). Why are you saying that you have to remove an intercooler if you add a cai, that's what I was referring to as wrong. You add the cai to an already turbocharged and intercooled engine without removing either. I know on the internet everyone is an expert, but I don't come to threads to troll, I come to make sure correct information is presented. I have an engineering degree and automotive background so I tend to know what I'm talking about, however I do welcome being corrected because everyone can be wrong that's how your knowledge grows from yours mistakes. Based on what I believe your tone to be (hard to tell with only text) I'm guessing we will never see eye to eye so let's just leave it at that.

I understand where your going with this now from your previous statement I was under the assumption you thought a CAI was better than an Intercooled System . which is totally wrong. Adding a CAI to an intercooled setup I have seen some systems like these gto_front_500.jpg

This is what I Assume your talking about. I think we just misunderstood eachother and I thought you were here to be a smart troll.

Haha, misunderstandings can never happen online... glad we got this all settled then. I've been thought of as a smart a$$ many times before before, never a smart troll though Not sure if that should be considered a upgrade or not. Anyways now we can get your thread back on topic!

I think if a CAI was 100-200$ it'd be worth it. I honestly do want one for sound, but hell 400$ is header range...so idk. The gains are there, +10 rear wheel horsepower seems to be common but they're honestly too expensive for what they are. I think AirRaid and K&N are gold mining. I'll see if i can catch a sale on one eventually.

For anyone wanting to know about the Airaid MIT for the 5.3L it does indeed give it a little more growl. I think i could get more sound with a high flow filter? But doesn't seem quite as loud as the videos of the K&N or Airaid CAI but it's a decent upgrade for 100-150$. Engine bay looks much more clean as well.

Not sure if anyone disagrees or has experienced diffrent, but I had a Volant cold air intake on my Camaro SS and it definetly seemed to help. I for sure will be putting a Volant with powercore filter on my Silverado as well. It was a great product for me, just thought I would share just in case it might be something else to look at.

Those Donaldson powercore filters are nice, that is what the C6 Vettes comes with from the factory. My plan before I put the Airaid CAI on my Vette was to use my Z06 air bridge, order the ZR1 filter retainer and then use the ZR1 Powercore filter as it is/was shorter than the Z06 filter and flowed more air with less restriction.

Dont they have like double the longevity of a normal CAI with a normal filter also? I cant remember.

The Donaldson supposedly can go 100,000 miles then you throw it away. I am at 30k on mine. I live in a dusty area and i think i am getting to the point of changing it

Thats what I thought also, have you blown it out or anything of that sort?

I dropped it on the garage floor when i was prepping to drive to the SEMA show. It left a pile of dirt on the floor
