Honestly, there wasn't any sound change when I installed the Airraid MIT on my truck, sounds stock through RPM range. IMO if there wasn't some performance gain from CAI, I don't think any company would of invested the R&D to make them in the first place. Now are they mind blowing numbers, no, but there is still a small percentage in power gained. Will I go throw my truck on a dyno, to prove before and after, no, because I'd rather spend my money on other upgrades. I used blackbears write up to make my decision on which one to buy, they are for the previous generation, but the principal is still the same with the new trucks.

Maybe I should edit that post, I'm not disputing the increased hp claims because they are real and as shown on the thread dyno proven. I'm just saying I doubt very few people's "butt dyno" is calibrated enough to feel 10rwhp.

I completely agree, my butt is linked to my wishful thinking brain, and wants to say, "yeah that Intake made huge difference". The only thing I have to go on, is on my daily commute, before the intake, when going up small hills, my truck would down shift to maintain 60mph, and after the intake, it no longer does that. Currently, i'm trying to decide weather to get a black bear tune, or get bilsteins or ready lift shocks for my truck. The conundrum of being poor and modding one thing at a time. lol

I went through several rounds of mods on my 03' Denali before its current state. Of all the basic mods, the tune by far made the biggest difference over an intake or exhaust so I would highly encourage people to go for a tune if they can swing it.

We can agree to disagree on the intake benefit, but what you just wrote up there is hilariously wrong. A cold air intake and intercooler are completely different components.

I went off topic earlier and brought it up saying on turbo vehicles cai's can help a lot with spool up. When I was told I didn't know what I was talking about because turbo'd engines use an intercooler instead of a CAI, I had to correct that.

23 HP gain, yeah OK. No way I believe that.

I have flirted with getting one, but decided to put the money else where. A good black bear tune would do more than a CAI.

Yeah a tune will do wonders but not as efficient as it could be with a CAI. Try running a marathon while breathing through a straw!

Funny how people say CAI is junk now but yet all 4 of my last cars all showed gains on the dyno with CAI kits. My 2008 Corvette picked up almost 12rwhp with just a change over to the Airaid CAI kit over the stock Z06 air intake, plus the Airaid smoothed out the air fuel as well.

My truck picked up power as well, so go which ever way you want.

So can i do a CAI an not have acheck engine light, or issues? Cuz on my 2011 Sierra i had ti get a tune and i dont wish to do that with my 2014 Silverado.

No tune is needed with a CAI, if you get a SES light then you need to check the install and make sure everything is sealed and plugged in.

For me, I want an air filter that filters best. Many of these things get their power benefit from lower restriction filters. They all seem to have a fraction of the filter area of the OEM filter yet are lower restriction. That means they have bigger holes. I dont change my oil as often as some. But I do use a good air filter.

AIRAID does dyno tests of all their kits and posts it online. The below link will take you to the dyno tests for their 200-285 CAI kit, which covers the 2014-15 5.3L engines.

I've always been an AIRAID fan, and in my old 2001 Sierra 2500HD with the 6.0L, I gained about 3 mpg thanks to the AIRAID and a simple BullyDog GT tuner.

I would be curious though if people have used/seen benefits from a new mass air flow sensor after installing a CAI, like JET Performance's Power-Flow Mass Air Sensor which is supposedly designed to better perform with a CAI than the stock (according to JET at least).

I like Airaid as well, but there is no need to change out the current MAF. I think it is something like 100mm and is the same MAF used on the C7 and C7 Z06. It can flow plenty of air for the 5.3 and the 6.2 motors.

To be honest as well on filtration of stock versus aftermarket. Has anyone ever saw empirical data or evidence of debris that made it thru a filter killing an engine? I mean unless you are just blasting sand into the air filter I doubt anything that makes it thru the filter will do anything at all. Anything that enters the combustion chamber is going to get vaporized during the combustion process.

I am running the Airaid MIT with stock filter and the truck runs at a more efficient 3-4 MPG on an average and a bit more peppy! I like K&N but I am not buying a filter until I need one.
