2014+ Best Air Intake

Recommended Posts

I wanted to Start a Thread because #1 I am curious. #2 I haven't seen that this has been posted yet.

What Company Currently Makes the Best bang for the Buck cold air intake for a 2014+ Silverado/Sierra?

I would like anyone with an actual Dyno of Before and after install to post their Results. I want to see Some hard proof as to what company actually makes the best intake for our trucks. I have read some here and there and checked with every online company I can find to see what the reviews are and its all mixed. I was under the Impression that the Air Raid MXP was the best so far but My brother put one on his 2014 5.3L Sierra and besides the increase in Noise he did not really see a difference in MPG and or Performance. I was also looking at the Vararam intake as well.

So lets see those Dynos/Reviews of all the Intakes you guys have bought / Owned on your 2014 and let us know how they are working out!!

I'll add that was on the GMT900 platform. The K2s I believe have a more efficient factory intake. The gains will be less but the comparisons should be similar.

Why exactly would this not be worth the money?? Every vehicle i have ever owned had an intake on it with decent gains .. How would this be any different.

I have also had one on every auto I have owed. On the research I have done on these 2014's and up...there's not enough gains to justiy spending the money on one IMO.

Which ever brand you chose, please post some 0-60 times for us, before and after, with temperatures at the same location at a minimum. I'm interested to see what you get for your $200-300.

All the posts in the past about these were anecdotal...'it sounds better and feels better'.

I personally decided to go with the air raid mit, I have a V6 and had to use a different coupler to attach it to the TB but I've been really happy with it, for $150 I think it was worth it, added with a k&n filter I've noticed an improvement, no hard evidence as far as a dyno goes though.

I would like to but I don't have anything now to guage it by. Im not looking for 0-60 times anyway. Im looking for torque and HP and MPG. Not caring about 0-60... its a Truck . 0-60 will also Vary on the lift/level/mods done to it on the same motor. It will be tuned when its all said and done anyway. I just want some hard numbers on intakes. and for those who say Intakes don't Matter Read the Post BigBear made about Cold Air intakes on the Last Gen Silverado/Sierra's most made 10-12 HP more with an Cold Air intake vs Stock.

That doesn't make sense to me. Increased HP and torque directly increases 0-60 assuming you don't already have traction issues. Saying you don't care about 0-60 because it's a truck but want more HP and torque is like saying you don't care how the trucks looks because it's a truck, but you want to color match the grille. In all honestly a cai or cat back will add so little power than the only way you will notice it is with a timeslip or dyno. The vehicle may feel more powerful because it's louder, but that's it. The exception to that is some turbo vehicles may have quicker spool up with a cai and that is a difference you will definitely feel.

And this proves your ignorance about Turbo Systems because any turbo system that is worth a Hoot uses an Intercooler not a CAI. Same Idea But Functions Differently and totally different setup. How about I re-word this for the Mentally challenged.

I don't care about anyones opinions whether a CAI is worth it or not cause I know it is and know it also increases HP/TQ & MPG. But I wanted some concrete evidence of HP and TQ #'s to find the best increase because I also Tow a 28' trailer & 7500lb Tractor and implements from time to time . If you do any real research the Better CAI's also improve Throttle Response and throttle Feel. Especially once Tuned with a Fast Acting IAT Sensor. 0-60 times don't mean squat when towing and or hauling anything...(you get where im going here?) Im not Racing this Truck . Its a 4x4 Daily Driver that Tows and hauls crap Regularly . The Post Black Bear Posted(Here) http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/145676-bbp-independent-intake-test-results/ Regarding the last body style and last generation 5.3. posted actual HP/TQ gains of 10-12hp /tq depending on the Intake. You cant sit here and tell me that the 2014 5.3 Style intake (that looks like a Hammerhead Shark) is the most efficient thing out there. There has to be a good intake out there or in testing that provides all I am looking for. The last Gen 5.3L Vararam put a Intake on gained a 23hp gain on a Dyno. I put in a Call to Chris @ Vararam @ They don't make one for the 2014+ Gen V L83 Yet. So that being Said I am just looking for a Company that has a good one out now or plans to release one in the Near Future.

23 HP gain, yeah OK. No way I believe that.

I have flirted with getting one, but decided to put the money else where. A good black bear tune would do more than a CAI.

All I know is mine has better get up and go off of the line with the Airaid and that was what was bugging me about my truck.

So I wasn't looking for more power just trying to wake the sleepy engine up a bit and that is what happened.

Once it's moving under full throttle I can't really see that much of a difference.

Before I could hit the gas the tires would break loose a bit then it would go.

If I hit it to hard now I can light the back tires up not that I drive like that.

Even under normal acceleration I could tell it was holding back to much.

We can agree to disagree on the intake benefit, but what you just wrote up there is hilariously wrong. A cold air intake and intercooler are completely different components.

Honestly, there wasn't any sound change when I installed the Airraid MIT on my truck, sounds stock through RPM range. IMO if there wasn't some performance gain from CAI, I don't think any company would of invested the R&D to make them in the first place. Now are they mind blowing numbers, no, but there is still a small percentage in power gained. Will I go throw my truck on a dyno, to prove before and after, no, because I'd rather spend my money on other upgrades. I used blackbears write up to make my decision on which one to buy, they are for the previous generation, but the principal is still the same with the new trucks.
