nav issue??

Not sure if this is an issue for me or not. I have the nav package, with the full onstar with directions, and the xm with traffic. I have all my settings turned on to show traffic and construction and to notify with voice, but I have never heard the truck tell me anything about any issues with traffic. Dunno?? Something I'm missing?

  • Are you seeing the delay/construction symbols on the map? If so, have you highlighted one or more of those to see what information comes up?

I found the traffic to be woefully incomplete. That all comes from XM, not Onstar. I'm in a metropolitan area and it would only show up for the interstates, not even major blvd's. it's pretty much a joke compared to google maps for that information. I don't think you are missing anything, I just don't think XM has the information for the truck to use.

All the symbol and information is there when you touch on it. It's the voice prompts that seems to be absent

This could very well be the case.

I have not dug far enough to see if these symbols/alerts are turned into voice notifications. I see them on my nav system but have never heard them voiced. Have you researched this in the navigation manual - what does it say?

No, I haven't done that yet, but a good idea. Thanks all

Well.... i read the manual on this. I have all the right stuff turned on, and everything is working as it should be. Where it gets kinda muddy is when it should prompt you about traffic issues. It doesn't really say if i need to be going to an imputed destination, or will it prompt if just driving around with the nav up on the screen, no destination.

I would try it with a destination set in the system and see what happens. I think you may have hit upon the answer!

I live in the St. Louis area - an area covered by XM traffic. My nav system gives me voice traffic alerts with no destination entered and even if I'm on the radio screen and not nav. You might want to check the XM web site to be sure you're in an area that is covered by XM traffic. There's a map that shows what's covered. Even with coverage, I have to say that the nav warnings haven't been that useful.

I still pay XM for the navtraffic. It is a joke compared to the info Google maps provides, but I don't like to fiddle with my phone when I'm driving. In the Houston area, it does a decent job to help me figure out the least annoying way to get home in the evening rush hour.

This is what I thought was supposed to happen. I'll check the ol xm Web site
