It's a nice afterthought design IMO. I kept forgetting to use it for when I parked in a garage. I usually put a parking ticket straight into a pocket so it doesn't go missing and I don't forget to take it with me; I don't want it left in the truck for security reason. Maybe if I lived in a gated community requiring a keycard access, the slot would be useful.

I had pulled the trim off, before. It didn't have any wires or connectors, but it did have a framework with a stainless steel clip within. If I had to guess, I'd say "it's to hold a credit card". I don't travel toll roads often and i usually pay with cash. But, if they take credit card payments, it would hold the card securely. ?? One of the engineers used every spot he could find to put a compartment of some kind.

Just get something under the edge of the plastic and pry it up .... a putty knife or screw driver. Just be careful to not mar the edge with the tool. Work your way around the panel.

this is awesome lol my 2014 work truck has them so i put my irving gas credit card in it for fueling every 3 days. its awesome and hold very securley

Built in card shredder.

My wife had them custom design it for me to schred my card, to prevent buying mod equipment for the truck. I outsmarted her and got a 4wd without the slot.
